Some scathing comments from Berry and presented some interesting proposed changes, particularly SACA players training with their grade clubs.
Seems to demand change, which could only be a good thing going on recent shield results.
Thoughts?

A positive step for cricket in the state.

I come from the Hills (Torrens Valley Cricket Association) where cricket at A grade level is on its knees. The game has gone a bit stale with little innovation at the local level in the past 20 years. They say if you're not moving forwards you're moving backwards.

Also state cricket must return to free-to-air TV to generate interest.

i liked what i read this morning, we have been a basket case for way too long, 1 shield in 30 years is a disgrace, i just hope chuck has more luck that bacchus had, dunno what went wrong when irongloves was here but it wasnt pretty. as for domestic cricket returning to free to air, we can only wish

A great idea by Darren. Hoping it comes to fruition and stays a permanent fixture. Grade cricketers, particularly younger ones, will gain from seeing State players around.

That is why we should have employed someone from outside of SA years ago, especially instead or that chump Sorrell. Chuck see's the deficiencies and the gab between Grade Clubs/SACA. A person who has been through the ranks wouldn’t see that as they become immune to it.

FS, I think you need to understand that for years SACA have been employing yes men to work to their tune. Marsh was too radical and only answered to big bad Ian - was never going to work, plus had no hands on with cricket, just looked at vision. Chuck is his own person, although obviously a mate of Cox and would have only taken the job on his terms. He is addressing at a level that none of them have before, but the current music is to everyones liking, yes recruit, but only top end, proven shield cricketers, no one will care if they don't play grade cricket, as long as they perform at shield level and integrate with the locals. That was the recipe for success when we had it, ie Siddons, McIntyre, etc. etc

I really enjoyed his story and lets hope at long last we can be competitive especially in shield cricket.For so many years we struggle to have test players,so i would think basically having a full list the results would be in redbacks favour.Honestly i would like to start from scratch and sacrifice a couple of years,start by giving a group of young players the chance and hopefully after gaining experience,redbacks can become a team that can dominate for years.

Finally, someone thinking outside the square (so to speak). We may as well give it a go, nothing else mainstream has worked for us in the past.

Only problem with not recruiting what he called "fringe players" is that Klinger was fringe at Vic, and now is our best performer with the bat.

Blizzard couldn't make the Vic SS side, and he was our leading run scorer.

My love child O'Brien was only a fringe player, but produced several handy performances for SA in the season just gone...

Will O'Brien type players get lost in the attempted resurgence, for a nineteen year old who does nothing for two years?

nope I would suggest Chuck would say you are welcome to move to Adelaide and play Grade cricket and we will select you if performances warrant it.

Nathan Hauritz springs to mind when he moved to NSW. He refused a contract from Qld, packed up and moved to Sydney without a deal. Played a bit of Sydney Grade and went from there.


If this was the case it will only improve the Grade Standard and force a more professional approach to recruiting with employment/other benefits attached.
