Australia vs India-World Cup Quarter Final

Postby Gozu » Thu Mar 24, 2011 1:30 am

This is it. Thursday night could very well be the end of the run in the hopes of winning a fourth consecutive World Cup. As usual pre-match show starts at 7pm on Fox with the match to follow from 7:30pm and Channel 9 start their coverage at 10:30pm.

Don't think our bowling is good enough at the moment (excluding Lee) to trouble India's top seven, and with Ponting and White struggling to do much with the bat, it's honestly hard to see where we can win the game.

Pag! India get themselves out... Australia just have to bowl good lines! Tait will fire this game and punter will make runs!

India easily for me, especially if they bat first.

Having both Johnson and Tait in the same attack doesnt work for me, their intimidation factor against the minnow nations works but against the batting powerhouses of India this wont work, maybe at the old WACA it would but not on the subcontinent.

Also the constant need to play a spinner, we dont have a world class one day spinner so why bother. I would rather see us try and get 15-20 overs out of Smith, D.Hussey, Clarke with Lee, Johnson and Nannes trying to bowl there alloted 10 overs each. This would give us another batting option and add depth to the batting line up. Theres not that much of difference between them 3 bowling 10 overs and Krezja bowling 10 overs.

For me the side should be

1. Shane Watson
2. Brad Haddin
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Michael Clarke
5. Michael Hussey
6. Cameron White
7. David Hussey
8. Steve Smith
9. Mitchell Johnson
10. Brett Lee
11. Dirk Nannes

Bowling consistently good lines with Tait and Johnson in the same side is virtually impossible.

i tend to agree with this

I think we will win. If india bat first i hope we keep them to 270-300.

there is a lot riding on this game for a number of key stakeholders and if we lose it will go down as an honorable loss, but it wont save a few people

If we lose tonight it could be sad on a couple of fronts.
I have no doubt that we may be watching Pontings last innings ever tonight, if we lose i reckon the selectors will call time on him. Would be a sad way to see a legend go out but everyone has to pull up stumps eventually. May be the end of a few other careers aswell, tait, mike hussey and lee could all be playing final game tonight, the selectors will run a broom through the aussie camp and start rebuilding if we cock this one up.
Hope we can win and go on to win the cup and farewell these guys properly.
