Strong teams play meaningless games against weak opposition, then suddenly the quarter finals are single knock-out games where a small amount of luck or weather can influence the result.
My format would be:
Ten teams in 2 Groups, play each other in a Round-Robin.
Top four teams are automatically through, ranked as per there results, run rates etc.
Fifth team through is the best performing 3rd ranked team.
Play a final five like the footy. This means the lower 2nd ranked team straight away faces a knock-out against the better perfornming third ranked team.
The two Grand Finalists play a best-of three.
Most amount of games a team can play is 12, if they come from the "Elimination" and play the GF goes to best of three.
Bottom two or three teams have to play the top two or three teams from the Associates World Cup in a round-robin, for the right to play in the next World Cup

FH, they just got rid of the Super 6 this world cup. This was supposed to speed things up.

But as we know, it has not. I like Flying Highs version, but I can never see a best of three final happening.
I thought of just having a round robin with all ten teams, then play the final five series. I throughly dislike the knockout finals, because the best ranked teams can have a bad day come finals time and are gone without another chance. It doesn't give the best opportunity for the best teams to meet in the final.

I do not think we can win setting a target.
We MUST bowl first... And Tait and Lee need to wreck them...

I know it was meant to speed things up gadj, but they could also have sped things up by not having Australia have a full week or more between most of its games.
The current set-up and the 10-round-robin series both take 44-45 qualifying games by my calculations. With the round-robin of 5 in a pool, it only takes 20 games, so a few more games could be played can be spent on the business end.
Agree Spelly, the final is unlikely to be the best of three because they want to make it a big television event, but I reckon the tournament deserves it

Call me insane but ive slapped $200 on our sheep shagging friends to beat the kiwis. Vettori is back and its that time of the comp where the saffers start to choke. Can see a massive train wreck heading the saffers way

Depends on if any Pakistani players are looking at retiring after this WC.
