Just thought i'd look forward 4 years and try to predict how our Test batting order may look in 4 years time (2010). The batting order is picked on the premise that Ponting has just retired, but Michael Hussey is still on the scene (having been a late starter i'd say he'd want to play test cricket til his body wont let him anymore).

I don't think David Hussey has done enough just yet to be in. But you never know in 2010 he might have done enough.

not exactly brimming with youth but looks like a nursery compared to the current outfit.

you'd hope that a cosgrove, marsh, ferguson etc would start playing test cricket sometime in the next 12 months. we'll struggle when half the team retires within 6 months of each other.

Luke Ronchi is 25.

I would say that Ronchi is behind Haddin, Hartley (24) and Crosthwaite (21) in the keeper stakes. Gilchrist will be around for at least 2 or 3 more years and then maybe Haddin could get the job for a short time. Hartley will be the man in the future I think. Crosthwaite was dropped from the Victorian side for Pilon late in the season, but he will get better with age.

Hartley definantly will keep for australia. Crosswaithe has dropped of after a finger injury i believe while playing(david hussey had to keep for the rest the match)which put him out for a while and hasnt seem to come back to strongly...interesting to see how he goes this yr. i think he will be the next brad haddin who fills in got the resting or injured number 1 keeper...in this case hartley

Talking points.

1. Tim Paine ahead of Chris Hartley. Paine is a competent glovemen and I belive the better batsman. His battle with Hartley will be a good one to watch for that keeping spot. Paine could even get in as a batsman and if ever does that, Hartley's days will be numbered.

2. Mark Cosgrove 'pie' factor. On ability, Cosgrove should be in the team of the not too distant future. If he continues to eat shit, he will be a redback. Booney spotted him stocking up in the deli just before jetting off to play for Australia and it something he has to think about (i.e. his diet, not avoiding Booney in the deli).

3. Birt in 'urnie'?: Tasmania's opening batsman, Travis Birt will be a dead set gun. The scary alternative is that the Aussies plump for Cat Itch in the opening spot should Matty Hayden give it away sooner than we would all like. Pray that does not happen my brothers.

4.Danny Boy. Life after Warnie...will it go on? Or will Warnie keep going on?? He is a classic Peter Pan personality who doesn't appear to be in any hurry to grow up. If Warnie doesn't have a crack at 1000 wickets (and any slapper within six inches of him) then Cullen is the man I would nominate us to spin out the oppo in the future.

Did you consider Luke RONCHI[WA]
He is a sweet timer of the ball and I expect him to florish this season.
He has been the 3rd keeper in WA after Gilly and Campbell, this year
there will be no distractions and i get the feeling he will star.

HADDIN will be about 34 in 2010 and might sneak into the equation.
He is living in Gillys back pocket, given opportunities he will be a star
keeper/batsmen for the country.

On his day MANOU is a star as well.

In your 2010 team did you consider Michael Clarke?

1. Don't know much abot Ronchi so can't pass any comment. I'll scope him out next time the Warriors are on.
2. Haddin to old by 2010, he could be a bit of a Steve Rixon mate...good but no Marshy.
3. Manou good but not consistent enough. Since when do the selectors pick South Australians anyway LOL
4. Clarke is a dead set nicker who consistently plays dumb cricket. He would need to do a Brett Lee (i.e. make a giant stride in his maturity and application levels) in order to be considered. So far he hasn't displayed those qualities just yet. Truly awful concentration, patience and shot selection.

REB - perhaps he has lacked that outside of his 1st couple of tests where he made 150 on debut in India in opressive conditions and then backed that up with a ton in his first test in Oz.

Agreed a couple of his shots left a bit to be desired later in the Ashes, but dont forget his 91 at Lords to get us into a strong position in the 2nd innings.....Didnt follow it up, and people tend to remember the poor shots, espeically when they lose!

Cleary isn't a nicker? I wouldn't mind seeing the breakdown of dismissals in comparison to other batsmen. Hope you're right about what the future holds for Clarkey. He just frustrates me at the moment. His efforts against Bangladesh suggest that nothing has changed in regards to shot selection. The NSW vs England game will tell us plenty.

The jury is still out on Clarke - he hasn't done enough in high pressure situatuions against quality opposition attacks.

I believe he has the ability to be a top cricketer, and he will have a huge chance this summer to prove some of his critics wrong.

Yes well this summer will either make or brake clarke and i hope it makes him cause if he does put in consistent scores for us in the future we will have a very bright one
