Murali to coach Aussie young guns

Postby Jim05 » Tue Feb 08, 2011 5:58 pm

Murali will take on the role as spin coach at the Queensland high performance academy. My question is do we want him? I know he will go down as one of the best bowlers ever but to me hes a cheating chucker and i dont want our up and coming stars being taught how to cheat. Its just my feelings and most of you guys will probably disagree but i dont want him here

Couldn't agree more days, IMO that is what we are doing wrong with our spinners, we are teaching them to bowl, with the 15 degree chucking law now apparently in concrete, we need to be recruting more baseballers and teach our kids to chuck. Now that was tongue in cheek, lets go back to the straight arm rule once and for all now the greatest of them all has retired.

I think it is great for our young spinners to be able to share in his knowledge. Whilst i agree he chucks the ball there is so much more to spin bowling than his bent elbow and i am sure he has some knowledge that will help out some of our kids.

Can't be a bad thing. I think we should put aside our dislike of him, and what he has been allowed to get away with, and acknowledge he can make a positive contribution to the future of Australian Cricket.

Playing the straight bat here, having saved up all my negative comments for his last hurrah at the World Cup...

He has a physical deformity, so unless he runs into a QLD offspinner who cannot straighten his arm, then there should be no issue.

All bowlers have different styles, Murali, Sajeed Ajmal, Nathan Hauritz, etc, they all approach the crease differently, they all rotate their arms differently, and they all have different "types" of legspinners, offies, top spinners, googlies, doosra's, etc.

I think Murali better than anyone (barring perhaps the Great Man), would be great in teaching youngsters about the pyscological aspects, about where to bowl, about how to find weaknesses, about defensive and attacking bowling field placings and the like.

I think he will be good...

MP, I do not dislike Murali, I dislike the rule change because cricket is run from Asia that allowed him to bowl the doosra. Agree they are all different, except one thing, under the straight arm law, they all chuck the doosra.

No doubt about knowledge and what he can bring to the game, he worked batsman just like the great man and generally they submitted. I am sure someone will tell me otherwise, but the Aussies played him better than all. He got a lot of 5 fors against us, but generally for lots and we compiled huge totals meaning he bowled lots of overs. His strike rate was surely padded against the lesser teams, and that means all of them except Aus.

Muttiah Muralitharan has pulled out of the proposed stint with the Brisbane-based Centre of Excellence in May, due to commitments with his IPL and English county teams. Muralitharan was approached in early February to mentor young spinners at the Centre of Excellence for two weeks this summer.

So I think it is fair to say that we all think he chucked, pity he is not coming to teach our youngsters though, obviously has a great mind for bowling and surely that is what he was going to impart on our up and comers.

Hair has no regrets ... onya Darrell

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/aus ... 6016159980

Former Test umpire Darrell Hair claims several ICC match officials believe Muttiah Muralitharan is a chucker.

In a shock development ahead of Sri Lanka's World Cup clash with Australia today, Hair - who first called Muralitharan for throwing in 1995 - said some of world cricket's leading umpires have privately rebuked the spin legend's controversial action.

Former ICC panellist Hair also made the claim that Muralitharan continues to chuck and, in his eyes, did so several times in Sri Lanka's 11-run loss to Pakistan last Saturday.
