ODI World Cup Lead up

Postby brod » Mon Feb 07, 2011 6:49 pm

Thought Id start a thread for goings on over the next couple of weeks before the competition starts

Hot Spot will not be part of the Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS) that will be used during the 2011 ICC World Cup, reducing the system to its basic requirements: a ball-tracker (in this case Hawk-Eye), a super slow-mo camera and a 'clear' stump microphone.

Australia's World Cup squad will get on a plane on Wednesday with injuries a concern, but the coach Tim Nielsen hopes the selectors don't risk sending too many unfit men to defend the title. Ricky Ponting (finger), Michael Hussey (hamstring) and Nathan Hauritz (shoulder) have all been racing to prove their fitness for the tournament, while some of their potential replacements are also struggling, including Xavier Doherty (back) and Shaun Marsh (hamstring).

Hopefully Kenya have a good tournament and win a few games like they did in 2003.

MEDIA ADVISORY

8 February 2011

ICC Cricket World Cup – Australia Squad, Replacement Players and Injury Update

Chairman of the National Selection Panel, Andrew Hilditch, said: “During the Commonwealth Bank Series we had a number of injuries to prominent players in our World Cup squad. Specifically, both Mike Hussey (hamstring tendon rupture & repair) and Nathan Hauritz (right shoulder dislocation) suffered significant injuries both of which necessitated surgery. The National Selection Panel has received a full briefing from CA medical staff. Based on the medical advice an application is being made to the ICC to replace both players in the World Cup squad. The NSP has determined that the best strategy to ensure a successful campaign is for Australia to enter the tournament with a fully fit squad of fifteen from the first game.”

“We’ve applied to the ICC Technical Committee for Callum Ferguson to replace Mike Hussey in the squad. Callum has an excellent record in One-day international cricket and played well in the One-day game against England in Sydney recently. We think he’ll play well in sub-continental conditions.

“We’ve also applied to the ICC Technical Committee for Jason Krejza to replace Nathan Hauritz in the squad. Jason toured India with the Australian Test team in 2008 and understands those conditions. We’re certain he’ll be a key member of our squad.”

“Players outside the initial squad of fifteen, Shaun Marsh (hamstring strain) and Xavier Doherty (back injury) were not considered for this tour due to injury.”

Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris gave an update on other members of the World Cup squad: “Ricky Ponting is going well in his rehabilitation following his finger fracture. He is batting regularly and is expected to transition into unrestricted training soon after the team arrives in India.

“Brad Haddin was struck on the knee whilst batting during the seventh ODI against England. During the batting innings the knee became swollen. We expect this to resolve soon after we arrive in India.

“Steve Smith is making very good progress from the groin injury he sustained in the sixth ODI against England.”

M Hussey is a huge loss, but gives the Ferg a wonderful opportunity to shine on the big stage.

Every single game on Fox including Australia's warm up game against India this Sunday night but I heard one of the drones on 9 say they will be showing all of Australia's games during the tournament.

Boycotting channel 9 after their pathetic effort at Allan Border medal. Disgraceful act to cut mark taylors intro to hall of fame for an ad break.
Dare say even in a final channel 9 will cross to news or some crap

I'll be watching the entire tournament on Fox - it'll be the same coverage as 9 do, just without the ads every over.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

After the Ryobi Cup game tonight is the 'I captured the cup' from 1987, when the Aussies won

I think last night's was from 1983 when the Indians won.

I went through the EPG when the 1975 one was on and couldn't find one for the 1979 World Cup. Hope there is one, as I woulnd't mind seeing all of them
