The ICC has stripped Eden Gardens of it's World Cup matches as renovations at the ground fall further and further behind.

First, good to see someone finally stand up to the Indians. Seriously, how inept are the BCCI if they can't get one of their premier stadiums ready for the world cup! After the Commonwealth Games disgrace and now this, why would any sport in their right mind award any major event to India. Safe to say they won't be getting any major sporting events for some time after these two disasters.

Eden Gardens is the home of indian cricket. For it not to be ready is a disgrace and india should hang their head in shame. Stop spending your millions on a shit premier league and get your priorities in order

We aren't to blame for Kolkata debacle'

BCCI president Shashank Manohar has said that the Indian board cannot be blamed for the events that led to the shifting of the World Cup match between India and England at Eden Gardens. The responsibility for organising the World Cup, Manohar said, lay with the ICC. "According to me this (World Cup) is an ICC event," Manohar told ESPNcricinfo. "The venues were selected by ICC. The inspection was made by ICC. The board [BCCI] was not at all involved in this."

The other question about whether Kolkata would remain the host for the rest of the three group matches involving South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Kenya and Netherlands still hangs in balance. "The ICC will inspect the venue on January 31 and take a decision by February 1 as to whether it would be possible to host the other three games," Manohar said. "Otherwise three alternate venues will need to be found."

That's it BCCI, just keep burying your head in the sand, pretending it's everyone else fault but your own you can't run a chook raffle, let alone a world cup.

The whole set up in India for the World Cup appears to be a complete farce based on that article!

Nah the BCCI make CA look ultra-professional

At least our grounds (and New Zealand's) are pretty much already ready for the 2015 World Cup.

Well this was supposed to be our (and NZ) turn. They put their bid in late, was allowed to do so; our bid was the only one on time, but they were chosen for the dollars.

Anyone remember the last World Cup game played at Eden Gardens

http://www.espncricinfo.com/wctimeline/ ... &year=1996

Also in Eden Gardens shame file (from Wikipedia)

- Rioting at the ground during the 1966/67 West Indies and 1969/70 Australian tours
- The 1996 World Cup semi-final was called off with Sri Lanka on the verge of victory over the home side, after the home crowd set fire to the stands after an Indian collapse (the picture above)
- In 1999, leading Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar was run out after colliding with Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar. The crowd thought that Akhtar had impeded Tendulkar and rioted, forcing the police to evict the spectators. The match continued in front of an empty stadium.

The ICC finally show some balls and overrule the BCCI and then it turns out the ICC are in charge of stadium upgrades? Nice to know whoever gets the world cup then gets their stadia upgraded for nothing to be good enough. Not even FIFA or the IOC do that.

The Indians are now involved in another world cup bungle, with Canada looking at requesting their matches in India be moved to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka as they are still waiting for Indian authorities to issue visas to some of their players

And it will be detremental to the Indian fans, many of whom don't have much else to look forward to.

I weighed that up against the joy of the ICC planting one on the nose of the BCCI, and the latter won... ;)

They were looking forward to rioting again and setting fire to the stands if India were going to be cheated out of the win (ie-beaten fair and square)
