1st ODI Aust v Eng MCG

Postby brod » Sun Jan 16, 2011 1:19 am

Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle have been rested, while Nathan Hauritz was never set to play this match according to Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of selectors. It might mean that Hauritz, who remains in Sydney for now, has already earned his World Cup place and the selectors want to have another look at Xavier Doherty.

1 Shane Watson, 2 Brad Haddin (wk), 3 Michael Clarke, 4 Cameron White, 5 David Hussey, 6 Michael Hussey, 7 Steven Smith, 8 Brett Lee, 9 Xavier Doherty, 10 Doug Bollinger, 11 Shaun Tait.

Players will be able to challenge umpiring decisions in one-day cricket for the first time this Sunday, as Australia and England trial the decision review system in the lead-up to the World Cup. Despite the BCCI's continued opposition to the UDRS, it will be used for the duration of the World Cup, which starts on the subcontinent on February 19.

D Hussey is a good 40-50 player..he needs time to settle in and will take 15 balls to make his first 10 runs, but then can get going quickly.
S Smith..not sure why you use him at number 7 as a bloke who probably wont bowl much..DC would fill that role (I know hes injured..but he wasnt in the squad before injury far better)

DC
4th most runs
3rd most wickets

And pointless having M Hussey at 6 unless we require Bevanesque heroics!

God help us!
We will need 10 overs and 50 runs per innings from Watto in this series.

1 Shane Watson, 2 Shaun Marsh, 3 Tim Paine, 4 Cameron White, 5 Callum Ferguson, 6 Mark Cosgrove, 7 Luke Butterworth, 8 Brett Lee, 9 Nathan Hauritz, 10 Doug Bollinger, 11 Shaun Tait.

There's my team...

Gives you a chance to look at another two players (Cossie and Butterworth), and gives a bit of a new look...

What time does the match start?

I'm watching the NZ/PAK Test on Fox at the moment, but the AUS boys getting rolled again will take precedence...

Just watching Tony Grieg go through the temp, humidity and player comfort and key in the pitch, why dont they still do that?

Mike Hussey is a great number 6 in ODI cricket. Steady head if we lose 4 early, plus can bash sixes as well as just about anyone.

Dave Hussey deserves a decent crack. Steve Smith is playing because the selectors want to give a kid an extended run to see if he's up to it. I never thought it a good idea, but many other posters here wanted kids brought in and persisted with. Anyone who said that can't be calling for him to be dropped now.

Glad Tait is out. Just about the most overrated cricketer going around. 5 years ago was a good first class and limited over bowler, never a test standard bowler, but now doesn't get enough wickets, goes for too many runs, doesn't add anything with the bat or in the field. At least Lee is useful with the bat and can field, plus looks more likely to avoid being belted around from time to time. Similarly lacking in wicket taking ability right now though.
