I just think it ironic that the beginnings of the decline of the Australian cricket team began around the same time as we were introduced to 20/20. We really do need to address the reasons why young players entering the system have obvious technical flaws, and it would be neglectful to totally discount the influence of 20/20.

That's nonsense. They were both making runs at Sheffield Shield level and that's what got them selected. Gilchrist made his name in 1st class cricket when he made 189 not out against SA in the 1995-96 Shield final.
