Maybe selectors are reading these posts.
I suggested during the sydney test that haddin was a good batsmen but glovework is average. I said i would like to see haddin play as a specialist batsmen and allow paine to come in as i see him as a future skipper.
A few days later haddin is dumped from t20 squad and paine made vc. I now see that he is being mentioned as the heir apparent to ponting.
Would love to see him skipper, id still play haddin ahead of smith as a batsman though.

You want a guy that has played 4 tests to captain the nation?

Not yet. But i think they will let ponting finish this year. That will give him another 8 or 9 tests.

We need to take a risk or two. Remember Smith being named captain to replace Pollock ahead of Kallis and Boucher after just 8-9 tests and at 22 years of age. Look where they are now and IMO that has alot to do with his captaincy.
Not a bad move, but making Haddin a scapegoat is not the right one IMO. He was one of a couple that held his own and had a decent summer. Ponting, Clarke, Johnson, Hilfenhaus, and spinners should be looked at before Haddin IMO. First to go should be Hilditch though

not according to andrew & what he said in the press conference the other day

..........................i've never heard a sacked football coach come out & say what he said, then again he hasn't been sacked yet

I wouldnt make haddin scapegoat. I think he has the technique and ability to be a stand alone batsmen. He can bat at 6 or 7. Far superior batsman to smith

Captain , that makes me laugh
Tim will have have 2 more important issues to deal with within the next 2 years
1 Haddin loses form
2 Wade does not improve
Good keeper /batsman is what he is
Captains of cricket teams have to be the best or near best player in the team
Tim cant even make the team YET

I think Steve Waugh nominated him as the next long term Australian captain

What would be wrong as Cameron White as a test captain batting at 6 for Smith. He offers the leadership in the interim, can bowl a little bit of spin like Smith. My top 7 would be
1. Hussey( started as one, and it worked for langer, Boon and Katich !) - Good way to finish off his career
2. Maddinson
3. Watson ( Similar role to Kaliis)
4. Ponting
5. Clarke
6. White ( Captain)
7. Haddin- Paine can wait a couple of years I think

If Watson is to move in the order, i'd prefer to see him move to 4 or 5.

I think Gilchrist filled in as captain for a couple of test didn't he. I don't think he was captain of WA at the time?

Possibly but as a permanent captain I think it highlights we are hoping he is the answer, not letting him work into the role naturally by firstly earning the right to play test cricket for the country regularly and then seeing if he has the respect and leadership to take over the captaincy

Yeah. I just think anointing someone like Paine, just shows how little options we have at the moment. Probably gets back to poor planning by the selectors and the fact that they put all their eggs in the one basket for the one plan they did have (Clarke).
