I remember that period very well as a kid. It seemed every time Hilditch went out to bat, whether it be international level or Shield level, the opposition would immediately send two out to fine leg and wait. It didn't matter how many well respected judges suggested he bin the hook shot, out it came with amazing regularity.

I can't remember who wrote it, but a cricket writer at the time said that Hilditch's batting during that time could be summed up by "Short! Hook! Fine Leg's! Thanks!"

If they want crowds at one day matches nowadays, why not do what they used to do with the catch a six promo? The hit the sign thing was also interesting viewing when it was hit or just missed. The attendance for this match was 4669 - lucky to get a quarter of that figure now.
