Sri Lanka have sprung a couple of surprises by including Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas in their 30-member preliminary squad for the 2011 World Cup. Seamer Nuwan Pradeep is the only uncapped player in the list. Jayasuriya has rarely featured in Sri Lanka's plans in recent times, and managed just 15 runs in six outings during the 2010 World Twenty20 in West Indies. The two-match T20 series against New Zealand that followed was his last international assignment; he has since been ignored for all formats of the game. Vaas, who, like Jayasuriya, was a part of Sri Lanka's successful 1996 World Cup side, has been out of the national team since July 2009, and last played an ODI in August 2008.

Preliminary squad: Kumar Sangakkara, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Dinesh Chandimal, Tharanga Paranavitana, Lahiru Thirimanne, Sanath Jayasuriya, Mahela Jayawardene, Thilan Samaraweera, Thilina Kandamby, Chamara Silva, Chamara Kapugedera, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera, Farveez Maharoof, Jeevan Mendis, Muttiah Muralitharan, Suraj Randiv, Rangana Herath, Malinga Bandara, Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dilhara Fernando, Suranga Lakmal, Dammika Prasad, Chaminda Vaas, Chanaka Welegedara, Nuwan Pradeep, Thilan Thushara

John Davison, Canada's all-time leading run scorer, will be available for the World Cup after renouncing his decision to would withdraw from the squad.

Davison initially withdrew over the exclusion of fellow batsmen Geoff Barnett and Ian Billcliff. He had told Cricket Canada he would be withdrawing until the pair are given the reasons for their exclusion from Canada's 30-man preliminary line-up for the tournament but after recent discussions he appears to be satisfied.

Good SA player..lets claim him (so that gives us him and Cooper as ODI players ;) )

Clint McKay, the right-arm bowler, is out of contention for the World Cup after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left foot. McKay, who grabbed 27 wickets at 19.59 for Australia in 2010, requires an operation and faces a 10-week recovery.

the Aus selectors will make some shocking errors when they pick their final squad. Ferg will miss despite a 45 average, christian will miss despite efforts such as 6/48 and 80 of 60 vs the untouchable NSW lineup. Steve Smith is a certainty to be picked, as is Tait who is only just retaining form. Regardless of age or anti selector rants Hodge should be there.

He'll be my player to watch... ;)

Just unsure why he can't convert his ODI average of 65 to a half decent return for SA...

I completely agree.

I just got back from overseas, and I look at tonight's ODI line-up, and it's absolutely pathetic.

Where is Ferg? Where is Christo? Where is Pattinson? Why are we not playing any youth?

Why are Siddle, Hauritz, Dussey considered locks????

What the heck is going on?

Ferg broke his nose in the last Bash game, DC strained something in the same game...

Siddle is alright, but the other two are pathetic.

And Lee, I was onboard before, but now I'd rather we just go for youth in Pattinson.

We seem to be going overboard with bowlers, how about pick the right ones, and then you won't need to pick half a dozen as cover.

I'd pick Starc before the lot, but you know that's not going to happen.

He's back fit now I believe, but I'd take a punt on him anyway.
