Initial WC Squad Announced

Australia Squad: Ricky Ponting (c), Michael Clarke (vc), Doug Bollinger, Dan Christian, Xavier Doherty, Callum Ferguson, Brad Haddin, Ryan Harris, John Hastings, Nathan Hauritz, Brad Hodge, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, Andrew McDonald, Clint McKay, Stephen O’Keefe, Tim Paine, James Pattinson, Peter Siddle, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, David Warner, Shane Watson, Cameron White.

Happy with that squad, but the one that makes me a bit angry is Voges. Why? Why not take a punt on a guy like Maddinson or Birt? They'll all get culled eventually, but Adam Voges?

Good squad, a fair bit of youth with Starc and Pattinson, would've liked to see Hazlewood though. Not happy with McDonald, not an ODI player. Pumped for Christo!

Anyone want to take a stab at the final 15?

a bit surprised they dont give Butterworth from Tassie a go. Averages 27 with the bat and 26 with the ball, but nevers gets talked about.

Agreed!!

Better limited overs cricketer than McDonald who averages 31 with the bat and 40 with the ball.

In: Maddinson, Butterworth, Hazelwood
Out: Voges, McDonald, SOK

Then we're talking.

Add Lee to that "out" list please.

Disagree. Leading wicket taker in Ryobi Cup I believe.

Played SA twice. Been a bit expensive, I can't see him having much impact on the international scene, besides, he'll probably break down by then anyway and this discussion will be a non-event.

I agree with most of that but would have Hauritz in over Doherty, Warner in over David Hussey and at this stage Lee in over McKay.

Nope he's got a poor ODI record, couldn't score any runs on roads in India and is pretty old.

James Pattinson is the only man in the group who hasn't played for Australia in any format.

Breaking it down:
Batsmen/ Keepers
Ponting
Clarke
Ferguson
Haddin
Hodge
D.Hussey
M.Hussey
Marsh
Paine
Voges
Warner
White
All rounders
Christian
Hopes
McDonald
Watson
Seamers
Bollinger
Harris
Johnson
Lee
McKay
Pattinson
Siddle
Starc
Tait
Spinners
Doherty
Hauritz
Smith
O'Keefe

You would think they'd pick 7 batsmen, 2 all-rounders and 6 bowlers give or take depending on who the all-rounders are.

I think all of the ones in red would be shoe-ins as far as CA is concerned.

playing hodge gives a third option for spin...?

i think the guy is a grade "a" tosser, but how can you argue with his form...?

I suggest this on 7/1/2011
QL are playing TA in a 20/20 game
I suggest Travis Birt runs on the field naked and streaks
Perhaps the selectors will notice him

That's the thing, the squad CA will pick will differ from the general public's squad.
