Why we can't win the Ashes

1. No patience: makes a move then makes another three overs later - bowlers no chance to settle into a rhythm
2. Round the wicket tactic implemented too early: See above
3. Bowling to Left handers round the wicket with THREE BACK including no square leg. Easy runs and no real need to hook then is there?
4. Ball Chasing! Yes, our Test Captain is a ball chaser. You can always tell a bad captain when he moves the fielder AFTER the ball has already been there.
I believe yesterday's fantastic partnership has papered over some sizeable cracks. You can't really blame the bowlers when the skip has made a bizillion changes. Warnie has been a lot more diplomatic than I towards his former team mate over points one and two but Chappelli (best skipper I've seen for Australia) is openly scratching his head.
Oh dear! Let's hope my 'kiss of death' works again and we can conjure up some wickets before our lead is gone.
regards,
REB

Field placing is diabolical. Bowlers should only ever cone around the wicket to left handers as a last resort.

No wonder they are bowling so badly if they're smoking that stuff during play.

Bollocks as usual. You still need to take 20 wickets to win a test match.

Quite simply IMHO we do not have the attack to take 20 wickets in a test match, in fact what i have watched today I think we will be lucky to bowl England out in any innings unless the pitch is very very bowler friendly

Yep, and it's clearly Ponting's fault we don't!!

He gave the bowlers no chance this morning NFC. For example, we had Xavier Doh almost take a wicket so what does Punter do? Takes him off. Then he brings on Siddle who bowled a top class over nearly knocking over Strauss' castle in the process. Then he takes Siddle off! Bowling all day long with no square leg! How TF are you supposed to build and maintain pressure?
As soon as you see a captain continously move fieldsmen to WHERE THE BALL JUST WENT then you've got a captain with NFI. While Punter is one of the best batsman I have seen play for Australia he is the worst captain I have ever seen captain Australia in over 35 years of watching Test Cricket.
You've got be ahead of the game and not one ball behind and my friend our skipper is so far behind he's getting exhaust in his face.

REB

From what I've seen today I reckon you're spot on REB. The only bowler who bowled a really loose spell was Johnson, the others were quite tidy really.
I just think the field placings and frequent bowling changes left them with no way of building any type of pressure on the batsmen.

Think Ponting also is not inventive enough FFS England are 1/309, why not try something different, throw the ball to Hussey or Katich, even himself for a couple of overs, you just never know what might happen, obviously Clarke is no where near fit or he would have got a couple of overs there, we have bowlers that have alot of heart but that appears to be it. Can guarantee you wont see Siddle get more than 2 or 3 fa now, Hilffs around the mark, bit if it dont swing, he is just a containing bowler. Have to get Bollinger and Harris in there to get into the Poms faces a bit.
Think if you go back in history with Pontings captaincy once the oppostion batters get on top early it seems to be more containment then instead of trying to get wickets or trying something different

If clarke is not fit to bowl he is not fit to play i reckon. We were way too defensive. 2 men back for hook when strauss was in and they were just knocking singles around. They scored way too many singles today.
Ffs bring the field up and let them hit over the infield

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
If Bollinger's not playin
Harris must
Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
If Harris not playin
Bollinger must
Current attack is not dynamic
HILF workhorse
SIZZ can occasionally
MJ used to be
SPINNERS should be listed on the stock exchange as the 'all ordianaries'
WATTO whatever wickets he takes should be treated as a bonus
The 2 most dynamic new ball bowlers AU have are Rug and Rhino
RHINO is destroying the domestic batsman, but appently he has a wonky leg
Yet everytime he seems to bowl in the SS he bowls plenty of overs and keeps taking wickets
RUG just look at the way he ruffled Chris GAYLE last season
STRAUSS and COOK are left handers
BATTING still good
KEEPER a star
BOWLERS , come on pick my boys Rug + Rhino if they are fit, b4 its too late

Love to see okeefe and cameron get a gig but both not getting a game for nsw this week.
Batting still worries me. North no good and can see ponting and clarke struggling all series. Think they need to go down a spot. Would love hughesy to open and push kat or watto to 3. Ponting would benefit coming in at 4 and clarke 5

RHINO files
This season so far
SS
5/72[23] + 4/68[21.3]
4/42[21] current game
dismissed the number 8 batter + 10 batter once the rest were numbers 1-7 batters
RYOBI
2/58[12]
4/64[11]
All wickets between batters 1-7
13/182[65.3] SS
6/122[23] RYOBI
He is a strike bowler who gets top order batters out cheaply in both forms this season
TESTS
9/207
AVE 23-00
S/R at 47
Good start in Test cricket
Did have some excellent ODI form as well
This man must be given an opportunity at the Poms,if fit

This the same Chris Gayle that batted all day in adelaide for 160+ and then an astonishing century in Perth. Wouldn't be backing the Rugs credetianals based on those efforts.

Cripple
In Tests + ODIs Gayle was clearly ruffled by Bollinger
Just about everytime Gayle was dismissed cheaply on tour in the matches Douggie played, it was Douggie that cleaned him up
In an early pre match shindig, Gayle actually asked who Bollinger was
By the end of the summer, he knew who Douggie was
Douggie had him in trouble when he bounced Gayle
Honours were even in the Test Series
In the ODIs from memory Chris was Douggies bunny

Last summer's 3 Test series vs Australia, Chris Gayle 346 runs @ 69.20
Bollinger only dismissed Gayle twice all series and they were for scores of 26 & 102.
