Just waiting on an official announcement but it would appear Hughes has been dropped as a selector for Greg Chappell

Looks like it, great guy is Merv, had him at Broady Footy Club this year for a sportsmans night and he kept everyone well entertained for many many hours, sorry to see him go as a selector if it happens

IIRC he's a selector very willing to give the young lads a go though.
Exactly what we need right now, and should've started 2 years ago in preparation for this series.

At the moment, as REB has suggested, we are picking sides like England did in the 70's and 80's.
Replacing 35 year olds with 32 year olds.

I agree. They are setting up the batting line up for another mass exodus at one time.

With the bowlers they have seemed more willing to push younger, new players through.

With the batsman they seem to spend more time thinking about why not to drop someone rather than why someone new should be promoted.

I heard Callum Ferguson the other day say something like "we all know how tough it is to get into the Australian team". Recently I think it's been too tough and I wonder if that's what Ferg was trying to say.

I don't have a huge problem with this, as long as those 32 year olds are justifiably in the best XI at that time...

Martin Love was a good example- picked at 28 years old, because he was the next best player going around, and gone at 29, never to be seen again, because he was not in the best XI anymore.

Matthew Elliott is the other side of the game. Played when he was good enough. Gone from Tests at 28, but got a once-off recall at 33. No real form, nothing special, and everyone knew Ponting would be back in the next Test- perfect time to play an in-form youngster, but no. They failed.

Yep Greg Chappell the man along with Lawrie Sawell who picked blokes with a bit of character rather than the flashy types: S Waugh, M Hughes, C McDermott, G Marsh and Healy who started Australia's golden run from 89 onwards....

My only complaint re teh sacking of Hughes is we now have just four batsmen on the panel. Would've been good to keep another discipline on the panel to get an all-round perspective.

Great opportunity to make a killing on the punt over the summer.
England @ $3.20 is a steal.
