Brad Hodge - Just STFU!

Postby Rik E Boy » Mon Oct 25, 2010 12:50 pm

Brad if you want to get selected for Australia, don't point out to the selectors how stupid and pigheaded they are being. It didn't work for Deano and he was a better player than you.

I assume you're talking about the interview on the pre-game ODI yesterday REB?

If so, yep, I thought the same thing. The interview must've gone something like this:

"Brad, here is a soap box, jump on"
"Thanks"
"So Brad, so what does it feel like to be continually dudded by the Australian Selectors"

recorded interview starts.....

Hodge has his card marked and filed by the selectors as "Do Not pick again under any circumstances" Give it up Brad your career as a professional cricketer is over.

You guys are a joke. You have to pick your best side when it means representing your country. Not every player is the same, there all different. Brad Hodge is known to speak his mind too much when asked questions by the media concerning his non selection for his country. Who cares what he says, at the end of the day, If he's in the best eleven then he should be picked. I hate how today players have to say the right thing, even if they dont agree.
I cant belive you can not pick a guy when he is clearly dominating the State scene and has done so for the last 10 years for saying the wrong thing to the media.
I would of thought going on Rebel tours to South Africa and turning your back on your country would of been more of a crime than what Hodge has done. Players like Allderman, Rackermann and Hohns should of never been allowed to represent there country again but they did, and Hohns became a selector, that never sat well with me.

To have a sporting crossover for an example...

There's a reason Jason Akermanis got sacked. 8)

I agree Cadet, he is merely saying what we all think, the selectors are a gutless bunch of tools. When the same Test side is picked for the ashes and we get rolled everyone one here will be bagging them yet certain posters bag Hodge for doing the same. At least Hodgey gets heard!!

I'm not bagging Hodge at all, but I have obviously done so in the past. The fact is that he has won me over but he won't get selected if he has these little pot shots at the selectors (hence the STFU). As for picking the same old team and getting rolled that is exactly what I see happening this summer unfortunately.

I agree, however being a professional sportsman is now a career and with all jobs are obligations and criteria and having been around for so long and having been part of the aussie side at one stage he would know this and really its just stupid on his behalf opening his mouth, let his bat do the talking and the media take it from there, he doesnt need to say a word.

Disagree, his bat has done the talking for the last 12 months and he hasn't looked like getting promoted. Selectors prefer to give games to Steve Smith who is an ok batter who bowls a bit.

Off track but the ODI in India had Hauritz who was the supposed bowler and Smith the batter at 6. I assume Hauritz was to bowl the spin so why not pick a class batsmen like Hodge or Ferguson and leave Smith out altogether, or does that make too much sense??

Hodge is a class player who has been very unlucky not to play more for Australia. If he isn't a regular in the Australian side now he is never going to be. Censoring himself to keep the selectors happy will not make 1 iota(sp?) of difference. I say let it rip Hodgie! They're not going to pick you anyway so you may as well go out swinging!

Yeah true.

He must have done something in the past then that has black listed him from selection?

Why select a 36 year old with a ODI average of 30 ?
His only century was against The Netherlands.

Take out that innings and he has an average of 25 from 24 matches.
Not good enough for someone mainly batting 3,4,5

IMO He's another Hookes type player.
A million $$$$ at domestic level but just couldn't take the opportunities at a higher level.

Exactly, people can make an argument for his inclusion in the Test side but he's no one-day player.

Couldn't agree more. He's not in good enough form. Was it 7 or 8 Centuries in his last 15 or so innings? That's just terrible for a 3,4,5 batsman.

Clearly I was talking about the real stuff mate. What did he average in that ODI series in India, 9 runs? I remember watching it and almost felt sorry for the guy, just out of his depth and that's in India were you're expected to make cheap runs.

Excellent domestic player don't get me wrong.

Graeme Hick had a better record than hodge at state/county level but couldnt bat for shit in the big league. Think hodge is great state player and who knows maybe could have gone on but think he suffers from big fish syndrome. No good making hundreds everyweek in shield and ranger cups and having a 25 average in ODI. More tests maybe but hes had enough ODI's.

He wasn't the first to miss selection when he felt he should have got it and wont be the last. In my time i haven't heard anyone whinge and moan about his hard luck as much as Hodge does. Maybe if at the start of his good form he showed some humility, he could have ended up like mike hussey and played a lot of international cricket after 30. Instead for whatever reasons and with whatever advice he got given, he continued to make everyone know he should of been playing for australia and was hard done by.
Give any kid a chance to represent their state for 20 years, they would jump at it and be thankful. Hodges career achievements will always be tainted by his comments about non-selection for australia.

You obviously didn't read anything you quoted.
Noone is questioning his form.
The issue above was if it's worth selecting a 36 year old with a poor ODI record.

He is in much better form than when he was selected for the AUS one day side last time... He should realistically be in our top side...

Still a walking talking toss though...

he is not the first and most certainly wont be the last Australian cricket that has been starved of opportunities.
Darren Lehman was dominating for SA long before he got to the big league, also andy bichel was dominating for Queensland and could only manage to be 12 or 13 man alot of the time because of the amazing bowlers in his time, fair enough that the batting line up is struggling at the moment but picking hodge in my oppinion would only be a quick fix, not good for us in the long run taking his age in to consideration, i say out with the old in with the new
Were has Marbles gone and who is Satchel
