Mervyn who?
big pommy git complete with cornrows and with no heart.
Would bowl his first spell of the day all fire and brimstone but later in the day would just roll the arm over to get through the overs.
first year he had cornrows, second year had a close cut but who cares about his hair have seen and will be worse haircuts then that.
as far as no heart unless you knew the (successful) game plan of northern districts which you obviously dont then you are very far from the mark, merv had an arsenal of slower balls which were very good, i would imagine he would have taken close to 70% of his wickets whilst in adelaide with slower balls. like most grade clubs wickets are good for bowlers first twenty minutes of the day then are all very placid once real hardness of the ball has gone, and many clubs bring on dibbly dobblers - all clubs have had them s williams from adelaide, t evans from ttg, t plant at glenelg, cachopa at west torrens the list goes on where the keeper comes up to the stumps and captains opt for ring fields and try and play boring cricket, the tactic with merv was to use his slower balls - now if that is no heart then well.
as far as what merv has been accused of then its a very sad thing if he is proven guilty and what will be will be for him, no body on here is perfect and for a young person to be offered the rumoured cash it may have been too tempting for him, we have seen that even test cricketers have fallen into the lures of illegal bookmakers of late and will be ashame if it has claimed the big fella as well
