Who do you think should be in Australia's top 6 for the Ashes this year, you have 6 votes to pick your best top order. At the end of the poll we will have SAfooty's best top 6 to regain the Ashes. You have 6 votes to use.

As it seems the selectors are determined to play north i would rejig the batting order

1. Katich
2. Watson
3. North
4. Clarke
5. Ponting
6. M.Hussey

North is a top order batsman so give him a go against the new ball and ponting is starting to struggle so may get more out of him at 5 or 6

Selectors want to play North but is he in our best 6, I think he will fail in India against the spin. India should of been a perfect oppurtunity to give someone ago with the intention of playing the Ashes.

Smarsh
Kat
Ponting
Clarke
D Huss
Watt000

Punter will play at number 3 until he retires unfortunately.

Clarke is the inform bat and should be there, but until RP goes, he'll be stuck with no. 4

D Huss is in such good form and Northy is not, so get rid of 'im...

Marshy I just rate so highly, so bring him in to open...

That means Watt000 can drop down the order and bowl more...

For mine

1. Katich and 2. Watson - We shouldn't change the opening pair at all, they work really well together IMO.

3. Ponting- He's been under the pump lately and he'll be so determined to come out score a truckload of runs, win back the ashes and silent the critics once again. I believe he will.

4. Hussey and 5. Clarke- You can't drop these two. Way to experinced to just let go.

6. Marsh- I reckon the selectors should pick him. He been around the Aussie team for a while now, has made runs at international level and is certainly good enough to play test cricket for Australia for a long peroid of time.

Well, I am still not sold on Hussey but he's ahead of North IMO (and all the others in fairness to him) so he is still in my top 6. I reckon just leave them as they are currently.

I like this order DOOL. Why not give North the chance to prove whether he is good enough? Ponting to be their to oversee things as a senior player, but still worthy of his spot ala Border. Clarke at four to take over some responsibility. Hussey at five or six as a rear-guard action if they get into strife rather than thinking he needs to play too aggressively at four to push the scoring along, which I've never thought him to be the man for that job.

P.Jaques - Only lost his spot because of injury
S.Katich - Solid
M.Clarke - Along with Kat is our best bat and needs to bat 3.
R.Ponting - On the decline, needs to drop a spot.
S.Watson - Not a opener, has averaged in the 20's recently. Against the good sides needs to bowl more. Too much to open batting and bowl 20 overs a innings.
C.White - Has performed at ODI level of late, and made big runs in the Shield when he plays.

Hussey - Too old on the decline.
North - Hit or miss, more often miss. Has failed dramatically since last Ashes and should be dropped.

## If Hussey and North play Ashes we lose Ashes.

IMO the poll has probably proven that the 6 should remain the same as no one has stood out as the replacement. the 6th highest is ferguson which is surely just a biased pick from south aussies, how can anyone think that he can just walk into an australian side not having played for so long especially as he is yet to make his test debut. he may be an option half way through the series if he is making a truckload for the backs

No need to change the openers at present IMO. While I'm still not completely convinced with Watson - he has the runs on the board. I'd like to see White get a chance at number 6. He's only 27 and could be a match winner at 6 in the mould of Symonds. Very smart cricketer who would be an asset tactically and is one of the best fieldsman in the world.

The only reason I'd not put White in is if there is another young cricketer who has the potential to bat number 3 or 5 that can get blooded at number 6 as we'll need to replace Ponting and Hussey soon.

Katich
Watson
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
White

People saying Marsh should be in the test side is rather funny IMO.

His record is terrible in SHield Cricket and is only just gettng a game for the Warriors.

IMO i think WHite should be the man to replace North. He has come on massively in the ODI format of late, and when he returns to shield cricket he makes runs. He is at the top of his game at present and should be the man in the side. He can bat, he can field (north has dropped alot of catches of late) and if needed could bowl, although i dont rate it!

Cameron White at 6 would be very damaging to an English bowling side who will struggle when they get to Australia IMO.

WOuld love to see Ferg get in, but highly unlikely!

Watson

The opening partnership would not necessarily need changing but out middle order is SO bad and I dont see a stand out to jump in, the same way Jaques stands out as a ready made opener (even though he is averaging 40 in England this season), and Watson's body seems to be standing up more and for Australia to suceed...he needs to suceed as an all rounder, and it is too hard while opening the batting
