The Redbacks fly to Darwin next week to play in a nine day tournament against Tasmania, Northern Territory, New Zealand and Indian team Maharashtra.

The team will then return to Adelaide before flying back to Darwin for a Champions League Twenty20 warm-up series later this month.

Captain, Michael Klinger won the toss and it was the spinners, Bailey and O’Brien who faired the best in the dry conditions taking two wickets each. Bailey was the first to break through with Cazzalino caught at 34, O’Brien followed bowling Wells for 61 and young quick, Haberfield took Lockyear at just 8.

Harris opened the batting for the Redbacks making 56 off just 21 balls before being bowled by Krezja for 59. Klinger made 40 off 26 and finished with a respectable 39. Manou, not out at 34 and Ferguson not out, closed the Redbacks innings in the 13 over.

The Westend Redbacks lost tonight's match against Tasmania in Darwin in the last over, with just four balls to spare.

Daniel Harris continued his excellent form, striking 71 from just 42 balls in an imposing stand at the top of the order. SA complied 5 for 152 off 20 overs. Tasmania finished with 5/156 in the last over.

In the bowling department, Aaron O'Brien also piled on the pressure, taking 2/12 off his four overs. Cullen Bailey followed up his good work on Thursday with a tidy 2/38 off four overs.

Australian cricket carried out its first experiment with the split-innings format - two innings of 20 overs each - in a practice game between South Australian Redbacks and Tasmanian Tigers at the Marrara Oval in Darwin on Tuesday. The initial verdict from the two coaches, who set up the match to trial Cricket Australia's new proposed format for the first-class limited-overs game, was a generation gap of sorts: it was more popular with the younger players.

The Redbacks won the toss and scored 4-87, to which the Tigers responded with a 4-77 effort, which according to Coyle, was where they wanted to be. The Redbacks were bowled out for 145, the Tigers chasing down the target without losing a wicket and overs to spare. The match was played 12-a-side along with the split fielding restrictions: two outside the circle for the first five overs in both innings, four outside the circle from overs no. 6-20 and five out from overs no. 26 to 50.
