Terry Jenner, the Australian spin coach, is in a serious but stable condition after suffering a heart attack in England. The 65-year-old Jenner, who played nine Tests, is on a coaching assignment in the United Kingdom after performing similar duties in India last month and Zimbabwe in February.

There was a segment on Ch 7 news on TJ tonight, was very sad :(

He only has 15% of his heart left, and his lungs have been affected as well :(

He was barely recognisable to the larger than life character he came across before his heart attack.

Top Bloke is TJ.....very sad to hear

Had many days with him coaching (abusing) as a junior..still always thought he was someone who gave a toss about the people he coached..much respected

Im a bit shattered with whats happened to a childhood hero of mine

First time I met TJ was in the early 70s
TJ came to our school and did a training session
I was immediately captivated by watching TJ bowling his spinners
I watched and watched
From that day on I wanted to bowl like TJ
TJ was my new idol

I got the pads on and got to face one of Australias greatest leggies
I was thrilled
I was determined to play him to the best of my ability
He was to good for a skinny high school kid

He bowled me a ball which I can not ever forget
He bowled the 1970s version of the ball that Warney got Gatting with in the 90s
The ball pitched well outside leg, it then spun sharply and just missed my forehead !!! and spun that much it passed about a foot outside off stump
I was batting against him on matting rolled over cement, and boy was he spinning and making them bounce

I spent most of that summer doing 2 things
Watching TJ and Ashley Mallet bowling for SA and AU
And I practiced bowling spin non stop
I emulated both the great spinners and bowled offies and leggies at School and Adelaide turf as well

Theres no doubt that TJ influenced the way I wanted to play cricket
Im pleased to say I was still spinning cricket balls three and a half decades after our first meeting

Great post mally. I was shocked to see TJ on TV the other day. He has shrunk down to half the man he was.

ENGLAND tour of Australia 1970-71
They played a 7th test that series, after an earlier test match was washed out
TJ made the HEADlines that Test
Scores and TJs stats
EG 184... 3/42[16]
AU 264....30 runs
EG 302....1/39 [21]
AU 160....4 runs

The 3/42 was TJs best in Test Cricket at that time of his career
2nd dig he was last man out and AU lost by 62 runs

Late on day 2 came the HEADlines
John Snow was a frightening fast bowler
Score 7/195 with TJ on 8 runs
Snow bounced TJ and hit him in the head, TJ had to retire hurt
I recall watching this on ABC TV
It was a sickening sight seeing TJ being hit in the pre helmet days of cricket
The crowd became very vocal, probably remininscent of when Harold Larwood hit Bert and Bill 4 decades prior at the Adelaide Oval
Snowy went to fine leg and was scragged by a spectator, who from memory grabbed Snow by the shirt
At some stage Ray Illingworth the offspinning EG skipper controversially took his team off the field
The game was held up for a sMALl amount of time

TJ was able to resume his innings
he ended up with 30
It was a very entertaining dig, as TJ played some rollicking shots and the tail wagged

AU lost by 62 runs
Ian Chappell is well known for his opinion on winning the toss
That famous quote of his goes something like
'' When you win the toss you think about putting the opposition in, but you dont...""
AU won the toss and put EG in this Test
And I wonderr who was the captain !!!

A Testimonial for him tonight at the Adelaide Convention Centre
Lovely article in todays Advertiser by Richard Earle, who is a very good journo
Good to see his mates and cricketing team-mates rallying around to raise some $$$$ for TJ
It is reported that it cost TJ a quid or 2 whilst in the UK hospital

TJ had a pacemaker inserted last week and is reported to be bulding up strength for the Testimonial

Geez time flies
One minute I m being coached by him in a net session at high school
Then used to chat to him at race tracks and TABS
Chat with him at the cricket games
Gave him a couple of lifts here and there
And then it comes to this
We are not mates or anything just a famous person who takes the time to acknowledge people in general

Hope its a great night
