North should make way for Smith?

While I feel Steve Smith is wildly over hyped I must admit I don't think North is much of a Test cricketer. Good article on Back Page Lead about it.

I reckon North is safe in the side for the moment and he deserves to be there, but with one small form slump Steve Smith will get the nod ahead of him. So that means he just has to keep making runs and lots of them

NORTH
22 INNINGS
846 RUNS
42-30 AVE
4 X 100
3 X 50
Thats almost 1 in 3 innings he has scored 50 +
Thats a good enough record for a number 6 batsman

Also he bats 3-4 for WA
Its a learning curb when playing against spinners batting at 6
So he could still be a long term batsman for AU

North just needs to survive for 18 more months when KAT/HUSS will prob announce thier retirements
He could then get a promotion in the batting order and perhaps prosper

As for Smith refer a Jagger /Stones classic lyric
""Time is on my side, yes it is.""

I agree the popgun NZ attack made an ordinary cricketer look good - now we probably have to put up with him until he fails in the Ashes series

Correct me if Im wrong but wasnt he one of our best, if not the best during the last ashes series.

NORTH O/SEAS TOURS

SA 2008/2009
125*
0 +6
12 + 96
110
8 +10
367 RUNS @ 45-8

EG 2009
117 +5
38 +0
160 RUNS @ 40

NZ
112*
112 RUNS and no average YET

619 RUNS
56-27 AVE

Not a bad record
And has the distinction of making a ton on debut on all 3 occasions on overseas tours something Bradman, Reb or I have never done
Granted he is hot or miss, but players who are capable of making test tons against good bowling attacks have to be perservered with

On the downside his form in AU is poor

Leave Smiffy in the Blues and let him do a lot more bowling.

I would have liked to see him in, just for the interest factor.

In the end Oz have a great tradition of sticking with people until they absolutely have to go. A fine tradition too, in the end it works more than not.

Too right.
