Is Dave Warner on the Redbacks Radar?

Postby Dogmatic » Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:02 am

I think he could be a good fit for SA and the Adelaide Oval.
He is young and a good fielder, he should be working on bowling his spinners and his batting speaks for itself.

Below is an excerpt from an article on the ABC website;

That could prompt Queensland to chase a batting recruit from interstate, such as New South Wales slogger David Warner, who reportedly could be on the move given his limited first-class opportunities with the Blues.

Simpson said with the exception of signing Ryan Harris from South Australia, Queensland had preferred unearthing young players, and said the likes of Warner would not be assessed on talent alone.

"I haven't met David Warner and not for one second am I assuming anything about his character, but the number one thing that I think that Queensland cricket's strength is and will be taken into consideration is the character," he said.

"As Justin Langer often alludes to, it's character over cover drive.

"If David Warner, the person that he is, fits in our suit then great, if he doesn't then I'm sure the number one priority if we do look for another batsmen, will be the personality."
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

I reckon recruiting Warner would be a risk worth taking now. With Klinger obviously in his prime and Ferguson due back sometime towards the end of the year, hw would fit in great. Klinger and Fergie going along at a strike rate of 50-60 and then Cossie and Warner down the other pushing 80-90. If you could get that to blend somehow, who would he open with? Cooper or Smith?

Every state would be mad not to chase Warner. The fact is he is one of the best 20/20 players in the world. The money is made at the Champions League in India. I think NSW made about 9 million for winning it last year. Throw Warner into the Redbacks 20/20 side and they would be one of the best 20/20 sides in the World. Even If he didn't get a game, in Shield cricket he still would be worth throwing a lucrative pakage at to entice him over. KFC Big Bash is played in front of huge crowds, Big Bash rates as highly as an AFL game on Foxtell. As i said above, winning the Champions League is worth millions to the state. Win the Champions League and put some of the money into our district comp and in recruiting more rounded cricketers.

i think the biggest problem is how quickly SA people turn on their own, if Warner comes and has some failures the ammount of people who would want to see him shipped off would be ridiculous!

If cossie gets pasted for making quick starts then getting out, wats gonna happen to Warner??

I reckon that's a good call also. He'll cop it worse than Cossie cos he's not a Croweater. But why not open with Cossie in the shorter form? Hasn't that worked out OK in the past?

Warner would be a good recruit,as many other batsmen from interstate as adelaide is a batsmens paradise,i really hope glenelg oval will be up and running soon, especially for 4 day games, then games can be played without captains having to declare to make an outright result.Hope S.A do get Warner.

Warner would be great for 1 dayers and 20/20, i'm not convinced he's any real value for the longer version of the game, however.

Two days after missing a Cricket Australia contract, the opener David Warner has signed with New South Wales for three years to end the chances of a move interstate. Despite being a fixture of Australia's Twenty20 side, Warner is not a first-choice Sheffield Shield player for the Blues and appeared in two 2nd XI games during the summer.

There had been talk Warner, 23, would leave the SCG in the hope of gaining more first-class action but he has decided to stay at home. "It's great news," he said. "I am very much looking forward to continuing my playing career at NSW. I have played all my junior and senior cricket here and I would like to perform well for my home state."
