does manou play for himself?

Postby baseballbat » Sat Jan 30, 2010 11:14 pm

speaking to people at the adelaide oval today and all agree that manou is batting himself 2 high in order
to get back into the aussie side. they all reckon he should worry about the team and not himself?
personally i agree - but what does everyone else reckon? he bats himself in the order just to justify what
he wants and unfortunately cant get a run. dont like players who play for themselves and not for team or state

Tend to agree with you bbb. certainly looks that way,
Obviously has shown ability in the past with the bat but just hasn't shown any consistency to hold down no. 6 in SS or open in T20.
Have heard whispers from some players that he hasnt got full support of the players to bat where he does but at the end of the day, the captain usually bats where he wants. Must say tho that his performance with the bat certainly hasn't been of any benefit to any success the team has had.

Personally I thought he made himself an opener in the T20 games to try and get noticed by an IPL team. Either way he put his name in and no one picked him up.

Totally agree.

Also with batting higher in the shield games that is all about promoting himself to be first inline should Haddin get injured again.

I have to agree. I heard an interview with either him or the coach pre-season and whoever it was said that Manou would be batted higher to keep in the Australian selectors' radar.

I'd prefer he be promoted in the order based on actual performances with the bat demanding to be noticed. Not just demanding to be noticed.

The ironical thing is if he'd batted at number 7 and averaged 35 to 40 in the one dayers and Shield games, he probably would have stayed under the selectors' nose, but having batted himself up the order and done virtually nothing with the bat all year, he's more than likely going to be overlooked in the future when a 'keeping vacancy comes up.
