I know this thread will get universal love ;)

Ninety-seven players, including 26 from Pakistan and several latterly with the ICL, have registered for the third IPL auction, which will be held on January 19. The list also includes four players from Associate countries - Rizwan Cheema and Khurram Chohan (Canada), Ryan ten Doeschate (Netherlands), Niall O'Brien (Ireland) - as well as former Zimbabwe nationals Murray Goodwin and Ray Price.

Prominent among the players who were part of the unofficial ICL are Shane Bond, who recently retired from Test cricket, Damien Martyn, Chris Cairns, Saqlain Mushtaq and Justin Kemp.

Damien Martyn & Graham Manou have both put their names in for the IPL auction this year

You'd think Kieron Pollard would go for around $US1.5 million.

Was reading earlier that Chris Cairns has launched legal action against IPL boss Lalit Modi for defamtion and loss of potential earnings. Cairns has apparently been banned from the player auction due to a suspension from the ICL, to which Modi has announced was for match fixing. sounds like cairns is not a happy chappy.

Cricket Australia will let players involved in the IPL make their own decisions about whether to take part in the tournament following threats on their safety from India. The Shiv Sena political party has said they would not allow Australians to play in Maharashtra following attacks on Indian students in Melbourne

Andrew Flintoff has been ruled out of this year's IPL and ICC World Twenty20 after undergoing an arthroscopy on his left knee and will be sidelined for a further six months. However, after the routine operation showed that his knee is recovering well from the micro-fracture surgery he had in August, Flintoff now aims to play all versions of cricket for Lancashire when he does return to the field

The Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has replaced Yuvraj Singh as the captain of Kings XI Punjab for this year's IPL. Speculation was rife over the past few weeks in India that Sangakkara was the man to take over the captaincy and Anil Srivatsa, the franchise's chief executive officer, confirmed the news today.

Modi is not bright really. He would be very entertaining in 20/20 cricket even at his age. Although it would be interesting find out more details about this match fixing business.

Kieron Pollard and Shane Bond were the biggest buys at the third IPL auction in Mumbai, each fetching the maximum possible bid of $750,000 before the bids went into tie-breaker, but the biggest surprise was the fact that not a single Pakistan player was signed up by any of the franchises.

Sold players: Kieron Pollard (Mumbai, USD750,000+), Shane Bond (Kolkata, 750,000+), Kemar Roach (Deccan, 720,000), Wayne Parnell (Delhi, 610,000), Mohammad Kaif (Punjab, 250,000), Eoin Morgan (Bangalore, 220,000), Damien Martyn (Rajasthan, 100,000), Justin Kemp (Chennai, 100,000), Thissara Perera (Chennai, 50,000), Adam Voges (Rajasthan, 50,000), Yusuf Abdulla (Punjab, 50,000)

Only two Aussies picked up

In a move heralded to be the first of its kind, the IPL is set to be broadcast live on the internet. Google will partner with the IPL and show all matches of the 2010 season on a dedicated YouTube channel.

The third IPL auction, held in Mumbai on Tuesday, has been overshadowed by a controversy arising from the fact that not a single Pakistani player of the 11 on the auction list - including several of the World Cup-winning team - was picked up. Pakistan's players have reacted with anger and attributed the blackout to politics; the IPL has said it was the franchises' decision and the franchises have explained it on grounds of cricketing strategy or availability during the tournament.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appeal to the ICC regarding the exclusion of all 11 Pakistani players from the IPL after the auction in Mumbai this week. Since the IPL is a domestic tournament, it is outside the ICC's purview and so it is unlikely cricket's ruling body will be able to do much about it, but the matter continues to rage on in Pakistan.

"We will be lodging a complaint with the ICC and I will personally table this issue at the next meeting of the ICC executive board on February 10," said Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, after a meeting with the country's sports minister in Lahore. "The IPL may be a private and commercial enterprise but this issue involves the pride of a nation and we are going to pursue it with the ICC."

Does seem a bit odd that no Pakistani player got picked up, but dont see what complaining about it to the ICC will do.
