Over rated cricketers

Postby catchisthecry » Fri Jan 01, 2010 9:34 pm

Adam Voges. Captain of WA, played one dayers and T20 cricket for Australia.
9 hundreds in 78 first class matches. 9!! Aged 30.
Phil Hughes already has 11.

Maybe his poor FIRST CLASS record is why he has not played FIRST CLASS cricket for Australia
His List A record is superior
2814 runs @ 42.00 (2 centuries and 22 fifites)

Also his actual international record is GREAT
ODI
162 runs @ 41.75
94.35 s/rate
T20I
63 runs @ 31.50
121.15 s/rate

I rate those numbers ;)

Captain of WA's FIRST CLASS side.
Only 2 tons in one-day comp isn't great either.
Over rated in my book.

You should have highlighted Hughes, not Voges.

I'm not sure Voges is rated that highly anyway.

Lol, i agree. I'd take just 1 hundred in all the games i've played even at a much lower level (much more than 78 mind you). I keep dreaming of the day but can't see it happening :(

Hauritz - Only just recently taken more 1st class wickets than Marcus North and only his 1st 5for on the last test.
Hardly good enough stats from a late 20 year old who can't make his shield side, till he moved to NSW and got his baggy green.

Up until the last test, Marcus North was.

Oh dear

You can't tell me that a 28 year old without a 1st class 5for deserves to be the countries frontline spinner.
Now I don't honestly believe that North is a better spinner than Hauritz, the fact that had more career wickets than Hauritz tells you how good a bowler Hauritz really is.

This thread has turned out to be 'slam Adam Voges'........anyway.

I really think Shaun Tait is overrated. He's expensive, inaccurate and unrealiable in my eyes. Shame, cos if he took his foot off the gas a bit, he could be very good with those inswinging yorkers.

Without having the stats in front of me, I believe North would have played double the first-class matches than what Hauritz has.

North has played 90 more matches than Hauritz but that is hardly relevant given Hauritz has bowled more overs.

Nope. Not having it. Hauritz is improving all the time. I'd hardly put Hauritz in the 'overrated' category. He is earning his stripes. Most perceptive Cricket watchers understand we aren't looking at Warnie here. People are starting to rate Hauritz because he has shown improvement, therefore he is not overrated. How do we know he has improved? Well you said so yourself, he has just taken his first 5 for.
