WATTOs class mates

Today I saw perhaps some inconsistency in world cricket ?????????????????????????????????
The ugly Australian image cam under scrutiny when WATTO acted like a 9 year old girl when he dismissed Chris Gayle, 3rd test AU V WI
Wattos exhibition of disrespect for his WI opponent was woeful

Today I saw it again
MohamMAD Asif bowled a delivery to WATTO and stood midpitch clapping his hands incessively for several seconds, real Primary School stuff

Then in another over shortly after
MohomMAD Aamir bowler a sensationally fast over at Watto
Watto was struck in the shoulder by one delivery
Aamir also clapped his hands trying to get under Wattos skin
Aamir on several occasions blew kisses at Watto
What a load of insensitive irresponsible garbage

The inconsistency of World Cricket ?
When an Aussie commits an act like this, they are scrutinised and made accountable
Watto copped a fine and some unfavourable but fair critisicism by the press
Will Wattos class mates be made accountable ?

Personally I consider blowing kisses at a batsman as unsportsman as it gets

Mal, you have struck a nerve with these comments. The behaviour from some of our Australian cricketers hasn't been great of late, the performance from Watson in the previous Test wasn't good, nor was some of the crap Siddle was dishing out to Pakistan tail enders today, it really isn't necessary.

I am pleased to have the Australians dealt with and scorned in the media for poor behaviour, but only if they were also prepared to dish it out to members of opposing countries for much the same misdemeanours. However, they are not, and it has been my belief for some time that castigating Aussie cricketers is the safe way to go for fear of creating an international incident should they do the same to players or teams from other countries.

This attitude from the media has become tiresome, and also responsible for creating a new generation of cricket supporters in this country who are Aussie haters, which is insane.

Players from other countries know this, and are aware so long as they walk around the field with smiles on their faces, they can pretty much say or do as they please. Benn was unlucky, his matter was dealt with by match referees, not the Australian media.

Today, I saw Aamer from Pakistan give Ricky Ponting a send off in much the same manner as Watson's in the Perth Test. As a matter of fact, Ponting seems to get that send off against most countries these days. It was very similar in that both players were extremely disrespectful in giving the dismissed batsman the cherio. If Watson's actions came under scrutiny from the media, then so too should have Aamir's .. but we know it won't.

The only comment made at the time came from the diplomatic Richie Benaud who uttered the words, "Reminds me of Perth ... and Watson looks on in approval". In other words, Richie didn't like what Watson did, nor did he like what Aamer did. At least Richie had the guts to say something, the others remained silent.

Mal is spot on. Had Watson been carrying on as Aamer and Asif were today, it would be headline news in tomorrow's sport page. I just hate the double standards.

I was critical of mal's lovechild and his behaviour.
I do however agree with everything you said Hawk.

One small difference, Watto carried on like a kid, Aamer is a kid. How much crap did Aamer cop from Siddle????

What a lot of cod wallops, nothing like Watsons send off. Aamer didnt run up to Ponting and get in his face. I saw a KID give a fist pump like what Brett Lee gives when he got an important wicket when bowling.

Watson is a twat. He would have to be the most uinpopular player in the Australian team for as long as I can remember. We had a Buckshow on Boxing Day and there would have been 40 of us watching the tv when he got out and no word of a lie, every single person went up together and cheered when he got out. People have just had a gutsful of him.

If AU needed 2 runs and Watto was last man out in a Test match how many of those people would have cheered ?

Probably all of them, because he would have failed. He is just a very unliked player.

Pretty ordinary that you would want Australia to lose a Test match just because you dislike Watson....

I thought the kiss blowing was absolutely disgraceful as well but there doesn't seem to have been much talk in the media about that.

I never want Australia to lose a test match. I just don't like Watson. I'm not the only one either.

It'd be nice to see him constantly get 99. He's done the job for the team yet missed out on personal glory.

what a waste of a thread. so what if the kid got excited because he got one of the worlds best players out. It almost seems as though some of you are trying to use a kids behaviour in his 6th match as a defence for what watson did in Perth. The criticism watson copped after the gayle dismissal was entirely justified and cannot be based on the inklings of the media or the motives they may have. Get over it.

This is off topic I know but I am responding to the anti-Watto sentiments in this thread .....

I can't remember a time when we have created such a popularity contest out of supporting our team. eg, in recent times:

Like - Hussey, Siddle, Warnie, Gilchrist, Krezja, Johnson, Lehmann

Dislike - Watto, Hayden, Ponting, Haddin, Hauritz, Clarke, S Waugh, Martyn

Ambivalent - Kat, North, Bollinger, Langer

Comments get skewed by these personal biases too often IMO. The worst is when I read comments where supporters are willing certain Aussie players to fail :? (often to justify loud opinions and stupid predictions made earlier).

Yes, Watto acted badly v Gayle but remember Warnie's send off in South Africa in 1993-94?

Warnie is the greatest sportsman in the history of the world, so he is entitled to do anything he likes. You should know that.

Exactly ;)

I'd like to do a study one day on the common traits of the sportspeople us Aussies dislike and those we love

Warnie / Boof v Watto / Hayden ?? There must be a common link ....

Great post Hondo

Im with whats been said
I dont mind if people dont like Watto
He deserves it
For half his test career when he was a nothing, he had that disbelieving anguished look looked as if he would cry
When he becomes a somebody, he has been a sledger, and over the top little kid celebrator etc

Whilst he makes runs, his career will be fine
His biggest test is a loss of form then his missdemeanours of the past and future might haunt him

Right now its his time, after a lot of setbacks in his career

As for Aamir and Asif thier primary school stuff of blowing kisses is overtly disgusting

If they did this to Clarke or Johnson and not Watto , Im sure they would have been castigated more in the forums

I was very critical of Mitch 18 months ago, now I love the way he goes about his business. He always smiles which is a great impression for the kids, he rarely sledges or stands there with his chest bulging out giving the glare. He turns around and goes back to his bowling mark and goes again, a great role model for any kid out there.
When he bats, he backs himself and is unfazed of a close call or if anyone gives him lip.

Yep, got it in one. That's my biggest annoyance in all of this .. urging Australians, and Australia to fail. I just cannot handle that.

Like or dislike players by all means, but never let it detract from the bigger picture, or a balanced argument.
