On the DVD Cricket in the 80s, Allan Border talks about this innings. He said things were so unsophisticed in those days on the medical side that they thought the best thing to keep him rehydrated was soft drink  They just didn't know about water intake and basics of hydration and were just winging it by the sounds.

Apparently Deano was in a really seriously bad way afterwards in hospital.

I remember watching some old Bathurst 1000 footage and seeing Allan Moffat pull into the pits for his pit stop and grabbing his refreshing can of coke thru the window for a quick skoll !! Ahh... hydration techniques of the bygone era....

I have a couple of Dean Jones' books and read that this innings almost killed him. He also felt that he never fully recovered from the effects either.
