The redbacks have signed West Indian Kieran Pollard for the T20s. Great move after signing Afridi the other day.

Huge news this bloke could take, along with Afridi to the champions league and get our guys a nice pay day.

Good to see the saca on the front foot.

Is this for real? This guy is an absolute machine and if so we've almost locked in a spot in next year's Champions League. With Pollard & Afridi if Tait stays fit and bowls with some ferocity I can't see how we won't at least make the final of the Big Bash.

The reason I ask if this is for real because supposedly NSW are/were about to announce that he's signed with them.

Thanks, I just saw it up on the Advertiser's website now too. Cox said we've been trying to sign him even before the CL which is good to hear but still shocked we managed to trump NSW with this. A massive coup for the SACA.

Yeah real good news
Means 2 SA players will now make way for some money hungry imports
Gunna be good to watch Afridi and Pollard but Im starting to lose interest in 20/20
If was State v State 20/20 I would be following it
But now its becoming infested with International players
I had thought 1 import per team was ok
But 2 is too many
B4 you know it , within 5 years there will be no SA players in the 20/20 team

Meanwhile with Haddin and Paine injured who will get the national call up Manou, Hartley or McCullum...

Mal, you're looking at this all wrong. This is great news for South Australia. T20 is purely entertainment and about winning (dollars) and trying to qualify for the Champions League by making the final of the Big Bash. Look at NSW they just got $US2.5m for winning the CL and Victoria got $US500k for making it to the semi finals. I couldn't care if we signed 11 imports (if it were in the rules) because they're better players than our locals and it would give us more of a chance of winning the CL which means $US2.5m to the SACA.

If we were talking about Shield or even ODD cricket (real cricket) thats a bit different but this is just T20 cricket.

I'm with Mal on this one, cause you can guarantee if SA made the big league that these 2 players would have played a huge part probably in getting us there and that they would then not be able to play for SA. Unfortunately Gozu, this is no longer "JUST" 20/20 cricket

That doesn't make any sense. How could these two regular Redbacks have even contributed when Afridi & Pollard will be playing in all of our T20 games here?

The 20/20 comp started off as state vrs state as it should be

MAYBE THIS FORMAT

LATE DEC/MID JAN
It should be 5 games between the states, no imports with a domestic final

MID JAN/FEB
Then a secondary comp, with a no limit on recruits for a world cup of qualifiers
It should be 5 games as well

Otherwise its not state vrs state anymore, and rivalrys are not as intense

Also the way things are going we may have to introduce a salary cap on imports !

Still STATE V STATE MAL, just that some states have got imports playing for them, SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!
Its been going on for decades from my recollection.
Did u have a problem with Sir Garfield Sobers or Barry Richards playing for S.A. in the 70s ?
Jeff Crowe, Joel Garner in the 80s?
Gladstone Small, Andy Flower etc etc etc.
Viv Richards & Botham played for Qld.
These internationals ADD some interest and also much needed QUALITY to our domestic competition and actually gives us SACA members a chance to see a bit more of QUALITY cricketers outside of the 1 test & couple of 1 dayers we currently get.

Why would u have to introduce a salary cap if states are limited to 2 internationals????????

More money into the coffers of cricket in Australia is a good thing. Mal has a point but 2 imports per team doesn't seem alarming to me. > 2 might start pushing it.

How long since we've seen crowds of > 10,000 for State cricket?

You could argue that the imports are replacements for the guys who play for Australia and. So, if you didn't imports, you still wouldn't have pure State v State. Well, you would but it wouldn't be those states' best 11. So it's already compromised from a certain POV.
