New Zealand wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum and reserve keeper Jesse Ryder have been hit by a stomach bug and have returned to their hotel room at the start of the fourth day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle today. Reece Young will keep wickets in the second innings.

Since Young was not part of the first Test squad, New Zealand had to ask Sri Lanka for permission to field him. David Currie, the New Zealand manager, said Sri Lanka had agreed to Young being fielded and hoped McCullum and Ryder would recover in time to bat in New Zealand's second innings.

New Zealand coach Andy Moles said Tim McIntosh would have been the team's third-choice keeper but he had also been hit by the stomach bug.

Of the seven players hit by the bug, Ryder and McCullum are worst affected. The others to be affected by the bug were Jacob Oram, Jeetan Patel, Daniel Flynn, McIntosh and Chris Martin.

Going well for the Kiwis ;)

2nd test starts tomorrow

Team News
A hamstring injury has ruled Angelo Mathews out of the match, and Sri Lanka will replace him with either batsman Chamara Kapugedera or left-arm spinner Rangana Herath. Kumar Sangakkara hasn't ruled out a triple-spin attack, but that would mean a very long tail for Sri Lanka. Opener Tharanga Paranavitana's place is also under scrutiny after his twin failures in Galle.
After O'Brien's forgettable performance in Galle, his place could be taken by fast bowler Daryl Tuffey, who last played a Test in 2004

Stats
- Sri Lanka have lost only one of their last fifteen Tests at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground
- After going past Derek Underwood's haul in the first Test, Daniel Vettori is the leading wicket-taker among left-arm spinners. He needs two more to complete the double of 3000 runs and 300 wickets
- Mahela Jayawardene's previous seven innings at the SSC: 82, 374, 127, 195, 136, 79, 2

Daniel Vettori prised out the two wickets he needed to cross 300 Test victims on the first day of the second Test at the SSC. He reached the landmark in his 94th Test when, in his 16th over, Kumar Sangakkara attempted a slog-sweep and was caught at deep midwicket by Jacob Oram. Vettori now sits eighth on the list of players to have taken 300 wickets and scored 3000 runs.

2 of the 8 are Kiwis, that would be about their best stat in cricket history
