Pretty darn toothless but no surprise in the post McGrath/Warne era. What is more surprising is how Peter Siddle keeps getting a gig ahead of Stuart Clark. Siddle has been rewarded for some good efforts against the Yarpies at home and away but the bloke just doesn't look like he is going to take a wicket and it's time to elevate the New South Welshman.

As for Hauritz, for all of his improvement he is not knocking over the tail. Horrie and Siddle out for Clark and Lee if he is fit enough. If we don't bowl out the Poms we lose the Ashes it aint Rocket Surgery.

Agree with Clark for Siddle but i'd be reluctant to bring Lee in. He hasn't had a lot of cicket in the past 12 months and i'm just not convinced he is fit enough to get through a Test match. He could well be stuffed and looking like Flintoff by day 5. Hauritz has done his job. He's never going to rip through sides but he keeps it tight and applies pressure from his end. I'd stick with him.

I'm hearing Clark in for Johnston.

THAT will never happen. if he was going to get dropped it would have been after the second test, and he got back into some form in this test

and after a average start to the series could end up being the guy who wins it !!!!!

Not McDonald again. Would be unlikely to outbat or outbowl Horrie!

Just remember if ever there is a track in the world you can afford not to play a spinner it is Headingly. Gatting to Embury June 1989, "On your bike Embers this ones not for you!!" Clark for Hauritz or Clark and McDonald for Siddle and Hauritz.

REB McDonald outbats Hauritz easily and his back of a length stump to stump cutters could be very handy on the 4th and 5th day.

i dont think the attack is as bad as everyone is making out. if you look at the stats for the series only onions is avergaging under 30 for either side and he is also the only bowler to have a strike rate under 56. hilfy is the only bowler from either side to put in a consistent performance yet he is still averaging over 30

You don't pick bowlers based on whether they clean up the tail or not, you pick them because they'll get the batsmen out. I think we just need better plans, or execute the plans we have now to Prior and the bowlers. Prior and Flintoff should not get that many runs against us and we really need to clamp down on them. The bowlers should all be good enough to knock over the tail if they're good enough to knock over the batsmen.

Agree with REB's thoughts. Clark & Lee in for Siddle & Hauritz. Clarke & Katich can roll the arm over for a couple overs here or there as a change up if necessary.

Clark in for Siddle who hasn't been bowling that well. I'd stick with Hauritz given he's been our second best bowler in the series. He didnt get much of a chance to bowl to the tail but went for most of the runs he did against Flintoff & Prior who were clearly on the attack which started with Watson. For mine Katich and Clarke are not good enough part timers to make up for the exclusion of Hauritz. The pitch supposedly will be pace friendly but it's always handy to have that frontline spinner there to give their batsman something different to look at.
