SACA have lost the plot. They've been ripping members off for the last 20 years and now they're asking for a levy of $60 for the building of the western stands (for a yet to be determined number of years).

$340 for a test match and a one dayer per year is ridiculous.

That's it for me. I won't be renewing. If I want to get a membership for a year, I'll just pay for an associate ticket (which incurs no levy).

Umm don't think you can get an Associate membership card without paying your Full membership first.

Umm don't think you can get an Associate membership card without paying your Full membership first.

i was waiting for someone to start a thread on this. it is wrong for so many reasons

- the members get less service this year so how can the price increase
- not many if any members wanted the redevelopment it is just a push from a couple of top executives
- even fewer members wouldve supported the redevelopment if they knew there would be extra charges
- if the ground with the current facilities cant cope with a few thousand at a football match how will it cope during a full day of cricket

they shouldve introduced an option where you could defer your membership for a year without penalty whilst this shambles is taking place

Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news, but apparently its a minimum of $60.

I'm going to be a bit of a 'devils advocate' here and say that members should harden up and hand over the cash. $60 is bugger all when you think you'll be:

- Contributing to the continued success and longevity of arguably the most beautiful cricket oval in the world.
- Contributing to the growth of cricket in SA
- Contributing to the character of SA through it's significant architecture

The Adelaide Oval is THE icon of South Australian sport, to be involved in it's renewal should be an honour, not a burden.

So stop sooking, hand over your $60 and contribute to the greater good, or hand over your membership to someone who will…..

I will pay my membership no matter what..... its worth 300 bucks just to be able to drink full strength beer

Nothing beats being in the members at the Adelaide Test match!!!!!!!!

I won't fire back too hard but...

It's not the dollar amount, it's more the principal. SACA membership would have to be the worst value for money of any sporting association in the nation and now they want to bleed more out of their members to pay for a waste of money redevelopment. How can you justify redeveloping a stadium which would have maybe 5 days a year where more than 30,000 people would be attracted.

A bunch of absolute Muppets are running the place...

As for the 'most beautiful oval in the world' comment, I'd say this redevelopment will only further destroy that reputation.

This stand isn't going to do that, the roof should have been the same shape and colour as the previous stand to keep the character of the ground, while at the same time increasing the capacity.

I think you'll find the Bradman stand redeveloped next, to blend in with the new stands. Not saying that's good or bad, just my guess on what will happen.

There are also 24 days of Shield, plus Franger cup and T20 big bash as part of membership along with other events. To claim it is only for international cricket is just wrong, even if that is all you use (mind you, to buy GA tickets for 5 test match days and 2 ODI's would be well in excess of $300).

I don't disagree that notice of such a price increase would have been nice, but it is inevitable - SACA has made 9 staff redundant in the last month, your $60 may be saving the job of number 10.

Spot on smac, whilst not overly happy at being slugged extra this year when there is less service but IIRC this western development is the only building project that the management have put their hand out to any form of government funding otherwise the minimum raise could well have been $120 plus . If the Redbacks performances improve again this year then I might find myself attending more state matches.

Any way Clarrie if that is the way you feel then give up the membership and let somebody who wants it pay for it. Enjoy the afternoon sun and mid strength beer at the next Ashes test packed in like sardines

Think that'll be the way I go. I understand that if you're an absolute cricket nut and attend Shield games you might consider that you're receiving value. As for the beer and sardines comment, what a joke... The members are packed in tighter than those in the outer anyway...

Glad to hear some members wont renew this year might get me off the 5 year waiting list.

Maybe they should have kept the old wooden seats for the members that didnt want to pay the extra $60.00 i am sure they would be happy to pay the extra the next year.

Not happy about this either, was the possibility of an extra fee ever mentioned in any previous correspondence with members? As a member though, if you are not happy, have your say at the AGM and when voting for the next SACA board. There are still many changes that need to be made by the SACA for the betterment of cricket throughout SA.

That's exactly why SACA need to charge the extra $60. They are a State association who also happen to run a stadium. Not something that many other State associations have to contend with. SACA are the custodians of cricket in this state and as such require money to fund various programs etc.

When there is nothing on at the oval, there is little income. When there is little income, there is little funding for cricket below state level. It isn't ideal but the money does need to come from somewhere.

I've been on the waiting list for 8-9 years. I'm sick of waiting!!

The $60 fee is supposed to be for the next 3 years, but after 3 years the SACA will just assume people have adjusted to paying $340 and they will leave the price at that.
If they do bring the price back down, i would be surprised if it was ever be below $300 again, no doubt we will never see it at $280 again.
Plus by the time the 3 years is up there will probably be a building levy for the Bradman stand.

I dont mind the fee that much, was a bit of a suprise, could have told us much earlier I feel

Have I read it right that some members wanted to keep the stands and facilites the way they were? Amazing....
