Phil Jaques is pretty unfortunate to miss out.

Yep he is the biggest loser out of those contracts and Brad Hodge is the luckiest cricketer in Australia, doesn't play international cricket but gets paid as an international player

.

Well done to Manou as well some reward for a breakthrough year last year. Shows that he is clearly second in line if Haddin were to go down injured.

Agree. Why have Hodge in there if he is not going to play?? Phil Jacques is definitely unlucky. Still he will be the next opener one would think if Hughes or Katich is injured.
Great for manou, how close would Klinger have been?? hopefully he continues his form from last year and cracks it soon.

Shows you know very little about cricket Rodney
After all
TESTS 11
902 RUNS
47-47 AVE
3 TONS
FIRST CLASS MATCHES 129
11707 RUNS
53-21 AVE
35 TONS
How could anyone with those stats expect to make the contract list ...

You are right Mal, RR obviously has no idea fancy averaging a paltry 47 and expecting to get another go once you are fully fit again

It is a bit of a shock with Tait missing out but IMO it's warranted. The guy pretty much openly admits he has no interest in Test cricket and wants to concentrate on ODI but more specifically Twenty20 cricket and then breaks down all the time when even playing those limited overs versions of the game. It must be a tough time for him though missing the IPL season (easy money), then missing out on selection for the World Twenty20 squad and now this.

I think it's actually a bit rough from the selectors, having told him not to go to the IPL and then drop him off the contract list in the middle of the IPL. Not quite the right way to do it, IMO.

I guess they figure that Phil Hughes is a lock so why contract Jacques? Seems harsh to me too. Maybe it's cheaper to pay him for the potential 1-off back up test this season, rather than a full contract, and then they can re-assess the season after based on how Katich is going?
As for Hodge I assume it's cover for our badly out of form no 4 who must be on his very last chance. If Hodge is lucky, then so is David Hussey IMO. I guess he's a good limited overs player but is there no-one out there younger and better?

I agree Dave Hussey is lucky but at least he has played international cricket in the last 12 months, albeit not very well.

Lets leave the Michael Hussey debate until the Ashes hey Hondo
Is David Hussey a good ODI player though? Only averages 24 from 22 games (Nathan Hauritz averages 23 from 19). Has had a lot of chances and he just does not seem to be able to grab them. Good 20/20 player but i have yet to see him show this form in the 50 over format. Is on his last legs IMO.

Good wake up call for Tait, he is at the cross roads in his International career right now, He can get serious about all forms of the game and string a good season together and no doubt he will be back in the side or he can waste his talent bowling 5 over spells before falling in a heap for SA. Up to him, I know which i would choose.

Tait has worn the baggy green for the last time and it remains to be seen if he will ever play 4 day cricket for the Redbacks again too...
Having said that, I still think we'll see him playing ODI and T20 cricket for Australia in the future.
