Disappointing that the Ferg couldn't make that squad.

How can Ricky Ponting get selected b4 Ferguson ?
In 20/20 cricket Ponting is a liability.
To win a world Cup in 20/20 you need batters that score from ball 1
From what Ive seen in the last 12 months Ponting will struggle as he needs too many deliveries to get going.

PONTING
TESTS = champ
ODIS = does a good job
20/20 = struggles

Are you sure about that?

Ferguson has batted twice internationally and scored 8 runs so to early to say. But domestically only averages 14.70 and scores at 112.

Ponting averages 31.33 and scores at 131 at International Level.

That is why he was selected before Ferguson. Ponting is actually quite a good 20/20 cricketer.

I was just re-reading Boofs book last week and he talked about the preparation for a 50 over world cup begins 2 years out from the tournament. Expect some major changes to the limited over squad this summer as they pension off the old blokes and bring in the next generation which Ferg is one.

It has already begun as CA has delayed its release of the 25 man central contract list by a month. which gives me another thread idea

Dirk Nannes, the Victoria fast bowler, believes Australia's selectors have erred in overlooking him for the World Twenty20, and plans to show them what they're missing when he lines up for his adopted nation, the Netherlands. Nannes has been in superb Twenty20 form with Delhi Daredevils in the IPL - his six wickets to date have cost just 6.48 runs an over, establishing himself as the preferred overseas paceman to Glenn McGrath - and feels he could have made a strong contribution for Australia, had he been given the opportunity.

Nannes was a surprise omission from Australia's original 30-man World Twenty20 squad, given his strong form in the format in both Australian and Indian domestic leagues. Prior to his successful stint with Delhi, Nannes had been the second leading wicket-taker in the Big Bash tournament, and his economy rate of 6.38 was the best among fast bowlers

Brod, you seem to be across quite a few things, what's the deal with McGrath at Delhi? I'm pretty sure he hasn't played a game yet and I haven't been able to find out anywhere why. All I could find was something about him needing to be with his kids and that he probably won't return to the IPL next year for the final year of his contract.

PUP you have the stats overwhelmingly on your side
BUT
I have a speculative mind
Ponting is almost 35 years old
Ive seen him in his last 20/20 games V SA
21[19]
38[31]
He could have been out several times in those innings
His first dozen deliveries were slow by his standards in both digs
One of those innings he was shown up by the Whizzer Warner

You might say whats age got to do with it
I will explain
At that age everything slows down with MOST batsman
Most free scoring batters in International cricket slow down at that age and take longer to get settled in
Thats OK in Tests/ODIs
But in 20/20 it can be diabolical

Good International bowlers will prob focus on a line of just outside off peg and starve him of legside clobbers early in his digs.
Im concentrating on good attacks not bad attacks that anyone can feast upon.

And the reason why Ricky MIGHT always ave more than Fergy is one bats 3 the other bats about 7

If Ponting batted 7 in his 20/20 career his average of 31-33 would be closer to 13-33

PUP you will no doubt get the support of the rest of the guys in the Cricket room
BUT
Remember I have a good record of predicting players that will fail or not perform at thier best

FOOTNOTE
I remember my batting days between 28-32 years old
I remember being able to hit boundaries from the first balls I faced
From about 34 + I found it much harder to do that
Now Im not as good as Ponting, but creation gave both of us failing eyesight and reflexes

i am more than happy that ferg isnt in the t20 squad.

so far in his career his biggest problem has been concentration/ application gatting out after making good starts. playing in the t20 isnt going to help him build an innings and develop his concentration for the longer form of the game

Wasn't the 20-20 World Cup on only 18 months ago? Why again?
Comment REB?
How much f*cken cricket do they want to play before the Ashes series, which will be a huge test given where the side is at at the moment.

There shouldn't even be a 20/20 world cup, i don't mind the odd 20/20 game, but a world cup is ridiculous.

To follow on from those sentiments - comments from John Buchanan

John Buchanan, the former national coach, believes Australia should have picked a squad of specialists for the World Twenty20 instead of relying on regular campaigners in a move that could harm their Ashes defence. Buchanan, whose side Kolkata is struggling at the bottom of the current IPL, would have pushed for Adam Gilchrist or Matthew Hayden to lead the side in England next month rather than having Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke in charge so close to a major series
