very well thought out i think. Though was Hodges's form good enough all year to earn him selection?

Good team. Not 100% on Martin Love. I havent seen stats though.

If this team played a game somewhere, I would have Rogers and Klinger then Hodge at 3. No spot for Hughes then.

No spot for Hughes only because he has far bigger things to be worried about. He will not play much more cricket for NSW again.

My side for the year..

C.Rogers
D.Harris (P.Hughes excluded due to Aus side now)
M.Klinger
B.Hodge (vc)
C.Ferguson
L.Carlsedine
G.Manou (c)
L.Butterworth
B.Geeves
S.Magoffin
D.Nannes

12th man: B.Dorey

Carlsedine had a very solid and consistent year, hodge averaged 60 odd and there werent too many other batters pushing to take his spot. He would also be the spinner in the side if needed.
IMO BUtterworth has had a great year with ball 30 wickets at 22 or there abouts and has made runs when needed for the tassie tigers, his hundred was superb and the fifty against the redbacks was at a very important time. He has also taken a couple 5 fa's. I went Magoffin purely over Dorey jsut because he can bat better, altho dorey is unlucky and has taken more bags then magoffin (but magoffin being consistent helped). Nannes is some variety in the attack after a great year. Captain would be (cant go manou caus i dont rate his captaincy)
but because he is the only captain in the side its hard to not go him.

Dorey is the leading wicket taker in the competition, he simply has to be included.

I agree - Dorey really has had an excellent SS season.

Curious to know how old Dorey is - would have ever be selected in a squad (not neccessarily team) to play for Australia again?

But part of the reason Dorey is the leading wicket taker is he bowls a lot and doesn't miss a game. I'm not entirely sold on him as a bowler, despite being the leading wicket taker. I think there are far more dangerous bowlers around.

If your picking the team based on the 08/09 Shield season, then Hughes has to be picked. He is playing for Australia now, based on his form this season.
