How is this for a list of players that have played test cricket and are currently injured or in the early parts of a comeback from injury.

B Lee
D Bollinger
S Clark
A Symonds
P Jaques
S Watson
S Tait

Whilst the team currently playing has some players who were under an injury cloud or have been recently

R Ponting
M Clarke
B Hilfenhaus
P Siddle

I question the conditioning of the players and the workload they are undertaking, especially those playing IPL. Any experts on injuries around? Are most of these injuries related to the players workload or am i looking into things too much.

With the retirements that we have had recently i don't think we can afford to have players on the sidelines as IMO we don't have the great depth we once did, although the depth is good it isn't great. Are there some people at CA, conditioning people, that need to rethink their training workloads or is just the amount of cricket they are playing?

Also pretty sure i would've missed a injured player or two.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't count Watto in those stats. He'd injure himself making a cup of tea.

Other than that there surely is a question mark over the workloads of the players. The IPL can't help. There is basically no time for the players to have a break now.

Mitchell Johnson does not play in the IPL and well look at his form.......not bad. Might be something to that......
But like always the al-Mighty Dollar does the talking.

Which is understandable to an extent for me as it is a short career to start with and they deserve to make the most of it because there time in the sun doesn't last forever.

I didnt say there was anything wrong with it, but you can elect to play in this comp and then complain about the workload. Or maybe you can, I guess its all fair.

I didn't say that you said there was anything wrong with it  ;) .

I am not surprised that Hilfy was under a cloud for this test. As a fast bowler he bowls long spells and places huge amount of stress on his body. My own body hurts all over from thinking about the First Class season where he bowled 200 overs more than any bowler in the comp.

With this sort of speculation you'd have to list the exact injuries, how they happened, and then see if there's a common link. There probably isn't one single thing.

Not all the Aussies on that list played IPL for example, IIRC. I don't get dirty on them for playing IPL because, to me, is a bit of a throw-away/not overly taxing junket that retired blokes do OK at

Most professional crickets play all year round these days - if not IPL then country cricket in the off-season.

On the bowlers it's more the long spells in test and FC cricket that would do damage rather than 4 overs in a 20-20 game.

Hard to speculate much more than that ... I am sure the coaches are concerned about it too.

Did Karpinnan get the gig as Strength and Conditioning coach on the basis that as an ex-first class quick he could serve as a net bowler for the team or because he was the best person available to manage the strength and conditioning programs for all 25 contracted players....

:-? :-? :-?

That is my understanding of the players current/recent injuries. What do you make out of that?
