It's the future of limited over cricket

IMO, 50 over cricket is finished but we'll spend the next 5 years pretending it isn't so! There'll be a final ODI World Cup sometime in the next 10 years is my big call

Cullen Bailey hasn't met any of the 2 criteria that will get you a berth.

1) He hasn't done anything.
2) He is not from New South Wales.

Whether you like it or not, it has attracted a new breed of supporters that were never interested in cricket previously, if you don't like it, you don't have to watch it.

I'm not a big fan of it, I must say it is a pretty good spectactle though, a fast paced game with some big hitting and desperate fielding. Give me the last hour of a close test match any day.

Was interesting to hear Glenn McGrath's comments on David Warner last night on 5AA. He was talking about how Warner was crucified by the media after failing in the one dayers. Good to hear somebody stick up for the bloke!

Newer, shorter and dumber doesn't necessarily mean better. Head down to the music shop to see what I mean. Teeball is junk cricket...you don't want to get fat on it or you'll soon be forgetting why you watched the great game in the first place.

Nah, you borrowed it off someone else. It was a former player who said there won't be too many more World Cups. I'd rather lose that than Test cricket though if that is the choice.

Dean Jones was the one I heard say it REB. Is that who you heard?

Although he said the next World Cup will be the last one ... I'm not sure it will die that quick.

He does have a vested interest because of his involvement with the ICL.

It's also my personal opinion. I feel that the ODI format will quickly become outdated. People will either commit 3 hours or 5 days to following a game. 1 day will become caught in between - too long for one format and too short for the other. I can't see the game supporting 2 versions of limited over cricket. Schedulers will leave room for the traditional game and then fill the rest with their new cash cow says my crystal ball.

I think you might be right there Hondo but I just hate what teeball has done to the domestic summer. I'm becoming a bigger fan of EPL every year but I do understand that I am in the minority and that money talks.

The problem is for cricket going forward IMO is that if 50 over games go in favour of 20/20 is the flow on effect to Test Cricket.

Players being saturated with a 20/20 comparable to the 50 over schedules they have endured over the past decade will mean they may over time (it is already creeping in IMO) become conditioned to the style of play which then creeps into first class / Test matches. They could in time turn test matches into a quasi 20/20 style of game and be over barely after it begins.

I know we have had tests in recent years that have at times lasted 2-3 and there was a push for 4 day test matches but the 20/20 influence is likely to see people calling for 2 day test matches if the crash and bash at all costs style "filters" into cricket!
