3rd ODI Australia v New Zealand preview SCG

The empire has crumbled, the mindset is diabolical, the team confidence is shattered.
New Zealand has sent over arguably its worst team on paper in history, but are playing smarter than Australia.
New Zealand are disciplined, they bowl smart, they bowl line and length and choke Australia and rarely concede extras.
The New Zealanders and South Africa both have something in common , they bowl 5 frontline bowlers and exert pressure througout the innings on our batting.
Australias 5th and 6th bowlers are conceding too many easy runs

Both South Africa and New Zealands batsman seemingly play for thier country and not for themselves.

The structure of the team must change
Gone are the days when king hitters in the late overs would excel, this has been evident since Symonds and Watson have been injured.

So if the batting is sus[and going to be too careful], the structure needs changing
It is imperative we play 5 frontline bowlers and take a punt
Having David Hussey and other part timers as the 5th bowlers is failing dismally

Here is my suggested lineup and comments

clarke..............must be team orientated and improve his strke rate
warner.............must be told to slog and not worry about his spot in the team
ponting............plays shots good strike rate
d hussey..........getting starts but not converting and must not bowl anymore
m hussey.........same as clarke, batting well but must take more risks
haddin.............long summer and his keeping is just off, batting ok, suited at 6
hopes..............in form bowling well, and at 7 will get more balls to face than 8, bats ok
noffke.............must play, give the team 5 bowlers and a good late order hitter
johnston..........improving and very handy at 9
bracken...........frugal bowler and a star
tait.................a wicket taker and must play at all times
mcgain ...12th man

would love to play White[late hitting] and Ferguson[can replace another batter], but its team balance that counts
Marsh and Watson when fit would walk into this team as would a fit and level headed Symonds

Watson is the last player to make a 100 for Australia in ODIs ?

Also if the decks are spinning then Mcgain the best slow bowler in the country by a mile would take a quickies spot.

Hilfenhaus can be rotated with the other quickies in this team

Most off all the batsman need a different mindset, play more aggressively and stop playing for thier spots in the team or for themselves

Catchy Aussies are $1-50
Cyclops game played sunday, tomorrow

The fifth bowler this domestic season
South africa games

Hussey 0/25 [5]
Clarke 1/29[5]

hus 0/28[7]
white O/16[3]

Hauritz played 3rd game

hus 0/29[4] this game over in 38th over

hus 0/24[6]
cla 0/30[7]

New Zealand games

hus o/28[4]
cla 1/18[6]

hus 0/14[2]
cla 0/21[5]
white 0/18[3]

thats 2/280 for the fifth bowlers, this is the single biggest reason why we are 1-6 down this season in all ODI games

Why does Warner deserve such privileged treatment? Not worry about being dropped  Blank cheque  . There are many experienced first class players out there who could open for Australia and score quickly instead of continuing the Warner experiment. Hodge for one. Kat for another.

Don't you wonder if the reasons he is struggling are:

1 - International standard bowlers have worked where to bowl to him to keep him quiet
2 - His complete lack of experience means that he doesn't have the mental strength or shot range to cut it at International level (yet, maybe)

ie, it's too soon for him. I don't understand why people want to make excuses for Warner and try to blame these nameless "others" who allegedly are telling him to bat "normally". The only reason he is in the side is to slog like he did in that 20-20. He serves no other purpose to the selectors so no-one will be telling him not to do it.

Just because he isn't slogging doesn't mean he isn't trying to. Refer point (1) above ..

A day of rennaisance for Australian cricket ?
The tasmania and victoria game at bellrieve today is the game of games
Tasmania 3/46 off 14.1 overs and in came Travis Birt, a man who cant make the Tassie shield team and took on the great victorian attack of nannes/harwood/siddle/mcdonald/mcgain on a green top
I have previewed previuosly that this guy is dynamic and should be in the 20/20 team at least and now perhaps the 50 over team

Birt
86
66 balls
4 fours and four zacs

If Micky Clark has a $1.5 million tag on him for the IPL this guy is worth a billion !

Siddle
4/27[7]
outstanding

And oh Mcgain has done it again
3/48[8]
but for Birt clobbering him he was oustanding again
A legspinner and a pleasure to watch, Richie and Warney would be excited

And the big news is that Ricky Ponting is going play this game, and quite rightly so

Who will get dropped ?
Perhaps test cricket sensation Clarke is injured ?

Fergusson needs to bat at 3 or 4 if they play him. Simple as that.
They bring him into the side and then try to protect him by dropping him down the order. Thats just DUMB.

Yes, there are a number of guys not up to international cricket in the side but I just hope Ponting takes the shackles off of Tait. Let him go nuts and blast them out instead of restricting to him yorkers in a bid to stop runs. it's not the main thing but it's no surprise to me we're losing left, right and centre when our best bowler who's unplayable when given free reign is asked to bowl so conservatively.

Waiting for the day when a captian leaves his main strike bowler to bowl 10 of the last 20 overs, with the change of ball in one dayers now maybe something to think about with Tait, perhaps give him a couple at the start and then leave the rest till the 2nd ball, just a thought of something outside the square

Well said Locky, we certainly need something out of the ordinary to get us going again, we need to try new things.

Ponting needs to go out all guns blazing, no holding back now.

Yes I feel a bit sorry for Dave Warner. We just aren't using the resources we still have at our disposal effectively. Coach and Selectors need a boot up the arse. Ricky Ponting didn't want to be rested and he contacted the selectors and told them to play him. Coach Neilson comes on TV and says 'he's played a lot of cricket, we've got a teeball match just before we go to Self Efrica' Well **** that shit, let's get our ranking back. We can go as low as fourth if we keep losing.

Too much cricket!! Suddenly teeball is a ******* priority. I said over a year ago this shit would sink us.
