I've seen this table before, and it clearly tells you what the table means. Why they seem to care so much is a mystery.

India's former left-arm spinner Maninder Singh labelled the rankings a "joke" and said "sadistic" ICC officials should stop coming out with such lists. Even BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah was moved to describe the rankings system as laughable.

Absolutely spot on. However, as you say Spelly, why would it even bother them? These ranking systems are no more accurate than Mike Sheehan's list of top 50 AFL players :)

All they provide is food for discussion.

And it's another example of why I think most of us on here respect South Africa because they just want to play competitive cricket.

Absolutely. They play tough, hard and fair cricket without complaining about every little thing that doesn't go their way.

The Saffies should tour Australia every summer!

At least that way we'd get competitive, whinge and controversey free cricket.

India,what a disgrace!
i wish england stayed away and not returned for the two tests, showing that they dont rule everything and everyone..
i know they bring in a great deal of revenue for the game of cricket, but we can not allow one team to dominate the way it is run and how it is run. if the indians continue to do this, it could damage the best game in the world IMO

They may have a point, but who cares. Fact is they will whinge about the top 10 if there arent at least 5 Indians in it. Their cricket board, and their supporters as a whole, are a disgrace to the game.

Whilst on the subject of whingers, how's the form of the Victorians? They have whinged like hell about not enough Victorians in the Australian team, and now they have White and Hussey in the Australian team, they whinge they can't play for Victoria.

You just can't please a Victorian.

That's not a bad thing though Hawkeye.

T20 Cricket is fast becoming the cricket of choice for kids. I know a lot of school comps in Adelaide this year are changing to T20, some of the younger age groups are going to Ten10. If it gets more kids in the game then it will generate better interest in all forms of cricket in the long term - if managed properly.

I just worry about the future of the game. Sure, it's fun to get out there and throw the bat at everything, but it doesn't build strong techniques, or develop a disciplined approach to batting. As you say, kids ARE embracing 20/20, so you can imagine what the next generation of batsmen will be like. Gone will be the days of a beautifully constructed Test innings that people will talk about for generations to come. 20/20 is closer to baseball than it is to cricket, and that worries me.

The alternate line of thinking is that we will have cricketers who are able to construct an innings in longer forms of cricket faster than we have ever seen before. If these players grow up playing fast forms of cricket, it could well benefit Test cricket.

Don't really agree there players will learn the art of seeing off a good bowler, the art of patience and the art of battling threw a tough sitaution. It's all hit hard and swing fast at everything after your first couple of balls.

Yes, but what I am (trying to at least) saying is that if they can learn how to see off a new ball while making quick runs, test cricket will be better for it. I think we are about to see a revolution for the better, not the worse.

Fair enough i hope your right because test cricket is the foundation of the sport and i would hate to see a day when test matches are only played as tributes or memorial games.
