Kentucky Fried Cricket

Kentucky Fried Bullshit more like it. This shit has absolutely killed the Cricket season for me. Why can't they play the Teeball in February, at least then there is some football I can watch on TV! For people who enjoy real cricket the Teeball interlude is a like a three week midseason break.

So from this point on, at least until 10/10 Cricket is introduced, this is what January means to Australian sporting fans.

Sydney Test. No probs there.
Kentucky Friend Bullshit. Simply unwatchable. No interest whatsoever.
The Australian Open. Might watch it if John McEnroe or Martina Navratilova make a comeback but that, while still possible is becoming more unlikely each year.
0 League. Vanilla Ice. The beautiful game without the beauty and whingers like Kosmina to aviod. Pass.
Basketball. Are they still playing this ridiculous sport in this country?
One day Cricket. Suddenly seems like legitimate cricket with the advent of teeball even though it is not.

Thank god for English Premier League. I've even taken to watching the NFL playoffs such is the dearth of decent sport on. Might also watch a bit of the cycling in the Tour de Lance.

Kentucky Fried Cricket. Greasy, difficult to swallow junk sport. Play this shit in February you **** so I can watch the bloody footy. NO SALE.

REB

What's the problem REB ? The Sydney test has been the last one of the Summer IIRC since 1998.

One Dayers and now 20/20 have been played in January / February straight after the Sydney test for the past
11 years ! Are you only having a CHICKEN with that now

20/20 has only been played in Australia for the past 2 years. It's not a bad spectacle. The only problem is people take a batsman's performance in 20/20 and start talking up his Test chances. There's a big ******* difference between the two!! Too much 20/20 will get old real quick as well.

Ricky Ponting talks about 20/20 in this year's Captain Diary. Interesting read actually.

The conflict is that 20-20 offends the purists but the packs in the crowds! Even to State cricket which I think is a good thing

Just talking to somebody the other day who had lost touch with cricket but went to SA v NSW 20-20 and loved it

It's interesting to see the tactics evolve and I still see a place for the bowlers, even though it's a batsman's game. A wicket taker like Tait proves it's a bit more advanced than tee-ball ;)

REB, it's only 10 days between the Sydney test and the ODI series. It's the ODI's that, to me, seem to be getting duller and duller over recent years.

Doesnt like 20/20 yet cant wait to watch preseason footy in February with 9 pointers, umpires thowing the ball in 10m in from the boundary and penalties for rushing behinds*? :?

Take T20 for what it is , a bit of fun just like backyard cricket, but I guess you dont like that etiher!

Will agree with you on one point, Im loving the NFL season....best game on TV at the minute

My problem is that you cannot read. My beef is that Kentucky Fried Cricket has now replaced the One Dayers as the sporting fare of January. As you know mate, I've never had a problem with test cricket as I mentioned in my post above. While I can tolorate and even enjoy the odd one dayer this Teeball crap is a bit like watching a rounders game to me.

Guess again mate, I love backyard cricket and play it all year round with my son and his mate next door. I've even got a cricket pitch in my front yard. However, I've yet to see any test stars retire a season or two sooner than they might have done to come along and play in my backyard. The rules of my backyard cricket game also do not make the art of bowling irrelevant (not that I can actually bowl mind you LOL).

I agree that 20/20 should be taken for what it is. A cyncial money grabbing exercise designed to promote India as the number one cricket nation. Teeball is like meth to cricket. Fantastic short term thrills that can result in major long term problems. In the future we'll just see bowling machines that pop out of the ground LOL. Maybe not but pretty darn close. You can also forget about concentration and the art of building an innings. When the novelty wears off with Teeball watch the ten overs a side game come in with six or seven players. It was One day cricket that was introduced to pay the bills and now we have another money spinner. The positive of Teeball is that it can pay the bills and keep Test cricket going but I believe this ultra short version of the game will have insidious and quite damaging effects to the great game of Cricket.

As for the 'What's it called this year cup' that is just one of the many sporting events I would be prepared to watch instead of Teeball. The main reason I watch that is to scope out the new players for possible value for the upcoming Fantasy footy season.

Cheers,

REB

You mentioned one day cricket in the original post ! Two 20/20 games hardly constitutes replacing the one dayers....

Unless you're specifically talking about the Domestic cricket, then fair enough, but I can't recall a domestic game in the past 10 years
getting the numbers that 20/20 is getting.

More about the timing there Essbee. The Sydney test finished ages ago and I haven't watched any cricket since. I would have liked to watch a few one dayers with an ice cold beer over the last few days of my holidays but the only bollicks that was being served up was Kentucky Fried Bullshit.

that is crap! they do this as its the best way for the team to get to the highest possible score. if they went hard for the overs and lost 6 wickets and then only leave 2 or 3 wickets at the end for the 10 overs, then they would b playing those overs by pushin around singles anyways! Stupid post!

That is just the nature of the game. It has nothing to do with any of the players mentioned building there average. The middle overs you get the singles as often as possible and get the odd boundary. Whilst it may be boring to some that is just the way the game goes.

If they push singles every ball between overs 15-40 then they are doing a bloody good job! Boosting their average? Absolutely laughable!

reb, if you don't like it DON'T WATCH IT, the crowds around the WORLD suggest it is popular, we had from memory about 13,000 to the last t20 match in adelaide if it was a 50 over match there would be less than half that & at shield matches you get the mums, dads, wives, girlfriends (or both) & mal at the games, so with the old adage of 'bums on seats' this WILL CONTINUE during the school holidays when the kids (future of the sport) take mum & dad to the cricket, so whinge all you want it wont change a thing & the revenue raised in this form of cricket is covering the losses that shield & to a lessor extent o.d.d games create

regards bayman ;)

ps, as i said if you don't like it DO NOT WATCH IT & btw i take it as a form of entertainment, whether blokes make 0 or 50 makes no difference to me in regards to their ability because it is just that type of game, for the new people going a few might go to the other forms of the game & it is made to be played like footy, rugby etc...a winner after 3 hours

I know all this mate. I don't like it and I don't watch it. I understand about the cashola side of things but I sincerely believe that the game will turn out for the worse long term. Cricket is the battle between bat and ball. Test cricket provides that battle but already players like Shane Bond of New Zealand are turning their backs on test cricket to chase the Rupee in the subcontinent. I reckon Warney in particular would still be playing Test cricket today if the Teeball cash wasn't on offer. He had a shoulder injury and also a year suspension during his career so I don't really buy 'I knew it was time' line with that player.

I might sound like a stick on the mud about this but I am not against innovation in the game. I am not opposed to one day cricket or even day night test matches if they can get the pill right. But any resemblence between Teeball and Cricket is strictly co-incidental and I reckon in 20 years time we'll be lucky to have six nations playing test cricket and for mine that is bad for the game.

REB

you have got shane bond WRONG, when nz were here i heard brian waddle on the radio discussing who they were missing & bonds name came up & he said that bond was given permission to sign by the nz board & the icc made a ruling after he signed & therefore he could not play for nz even though he wanted to.....which to me is unfair seeing the national controlling body gave him permission before the icc had made a decision

as for blokes like warne, gilchrist, gillespie etc i don't blame them for taking the money as they've worked hard for their country, blokes that are about 22 that take the money rather than play for the country that i don't agree with
