Posted: Tue Jan 06, 2009 12:04 amI'm sure most on here have never heard of the NBA legend Alonzo Mourning but he too named his daughter Sydney due to being born while he was here competing at the 2000 Olympics and he actually flew back during it for the birth and then flew back here to go on and win gold with the USA team.

I'm pretty sure it was Michael Holding who first said that, while commentating one day. Deathly silence in the commentary box, followed by raucous background laughter. A true classic!

Then we may need to find out who said it first because I recall years ago at some function they crossed to Clive Lloyd for a tribute to someone like Steve Waugh or Alan Border etc, and that's when he dropped the line about Lara naming his daughter Sydney. Had a sportsmen night tonight for league medal presentations and had a large amount of guests including Gillespie, Bichel, Elliott, Rodney Hogg, Mo Matthews, Michael Dighton, Jason Gillespie, Corey Richards, Vimpani, Jimmy Maher and a few others.
Some of the Andrew Symonds stories were brilliant! Rodney Hogg was very funny as well along with some great 12th man stories from Andy Bichel.
