Too early, a lot of cricket to be played before they even think about it.

It was meant as a bit of fun to try and pick an ashes side to see who can get the closest to the final squad announced. If we all try an pick one the day before it gets announced they will be the same.

I am with you AH. I though CK was early enough talking about the 1st test against SA.

My team
Katich
Hayden
Ponting (c)
Hussey
Clarke (vc)
Symonds
Hadden
Lee
Johnson
Krezja
Hilfenhaus
Rogers
Hughes
Watson
Casson
Paine
Siddle
Include Klinger if Hayden retires.
Clark is in trouble because wrong side of 30 and not sure if he will continue on. I think we need to have 2 spinners and hilffy instead of clark because his ability to swing the ball.
All so wondering is a ashes squad normally 18 players because it goes for so long.

I think what NFC was trying to say was that squad is an all-rounder short

No need to shout NFC. As i said that is what i'd pick.
I wouldn't include a second spinner because quite frankly there is no-one good enough. I can't see how you can justify picking a player because they just happen to bowl spin if they are not up to it.
I'm not big on allrounders either. Unless you can justify your place in the side based purely on one of your skills alone you have no place being there IMHO.
As for your boy well quite clearly i don't think he is any good so why would i pick him? This wasn't about getting you to agree just purely the team i would take if i had to select right now.

How do you think Bryce McGain will be by then. If he's fit he still may be a chance?

I doubt he will have a chance to get enough bowling in to be honest. At his age he will struggle to recover and regain form by then. If he can get enough bowling in and he performs well then he would be the obvious choice.

In 2005 they only took the one keeper not sure if they will do the same.

They picked 2 keepers in 2005 - Haddin was the back up.
This is hard because of Jacques' and McGain's injuries. Anyway my guess:
Batsman (8) - Hayden, Katich, Ponting, M Hussey, Clarke, Symonds, Rogers, D Hussey
Keepers (2) - Haddin, Manou
Spinners (2) - Krejza, Cullen
Fast bowlers (4) - Lee, Clark, Johnson, Siddle
Bowling all rounder (1) - Watson
The hardest to pick are the second keeper, second opener & second spinner (assuming Krejza wasn't a one test wonder). In fact, I would almost pick someone like Magoffin instead of Cullen and let Kat, Roy and Clarke be the second spinner. That puts a huge expectation on Krejza though.

I think i have more chance than Manou of going to England for the next ashes tour. He isn't good enough. Paine and Ronchi will go before Manou does.
