Was Ricky Pontings catch the best you have ever seen?

It is still behind Dysons for me but it was the best slips catch i have seen.

Dightons catch is better in my opinion...smashed by WHite to the boundary and took an aboslute blinder!
20/20 bloods, running from cover to straight-ish mid on, CoverKing takes it, thats the best of all time

Glenn McGraths catch is probably the best one i will ever see.
Jeetan Patel in the Twenty20 was a ripper
Paul Collingwood in the Ashes series 05 in the one dayer was great
Ricky Pontings is just below these i reckon.

McGrath off Warne at Adelaide.Not sure how,but with a belly full on the outer side I jumped up as McGrath took it and yelled "F*** ME HE CAUGHT IT!" and half the crowd around me were stunned that 1 : I could see that far and 2 : I had reacted to the catch almost as quickly as he did.

I find it hard to go past Matthew Sinclair.

Had not seen Astle's before now. Landing would earn a 10 at most Olympics.

I was watching a little bit of the ICL next door and there was a good catch and Tony Greig said that one was the best that he has seen. After the one taken here, I want to know what he thinks now, as in which one is better.

Tamim Iqbals catch (#8) in that vid was a blinder, better than Dysons because his body was facing the other way not just diving backwards.

Some great catches in those links provided. Astles is a standout for the composure he showed to stay inside the boundary as well as catch it. Pontings slip catch is still one of the best i think i will ever see.

That wouldn't have been the one that Justin Kemp caught on the boundary line running to his left and jumped up and snagged it in his right hand by any chance?

Didn't Adam Dale take a blinder in the outfield in a domestic one-dayer going back a few years now?

McCullum's catch is the best catch you could ever see from a keeper IMO. I think pontings catch is a cracker, but that pakistani bloke who took the catch running back and hit his team mate, not afridi the other one, that was the best out the lot in that video for mine

The two Pakistan players that took catches whilst almost killing someone else or almost being killed themselves were great catches. Every catch in that video is spectacular i guess it is just personal opinion as to where you rate them.

but ur opinion bloods is the one that counts!!

McCullums catch is spectacular due to the lack of footwork. I wouldn't call it a great 'keeprs catch.

best two catches I've seen from a 'keeper are:

Vishwinath (sp) ct MARSH bd Lillee SCG 1981 - A diving legside catch. What makes the catch outstanding from a 'keeping perspective is his footwork and the agility to dive and catch the ball in the awkward spot where the hands could go up or down. He moved his hands to take it sideways fingers pinting towards square leg all this whilst losing sight of teh ball momentarily when the batsmans body obscured it. Technically a great catch as it showed all the skills a 'keeper has to have:
1. read the ball out of the bowlers hands to anticpate correctly where it is going to go
2. decisive footwork
3. great technique with the hands - soft
4. agility

Simply a magnificent 'keepers catch I have it on a video I got a GFC auction night - Benson and Hedges Classic Catches.

A close 2nd:
Greenidge Ct HEALY bd Hughes MCG 1988 same games as the S Waugh catch - Greenidge gets a big inside edge so whilst Healy's initial movement is off-side he has to dive to his non preferred side down legside and takes the ball airborne. Unlike McCullum who saw the ball all the way and it stayed on the off side Healy had to change direction to get the catch

until tonight I thought McGraths and Waughs catches were the best I've seen but gee J-P Duminy you are a star...

Maybe seeing it live, but I'm still yet to have seen the backpedalling, diving, one handed catch from Derek Randall from 79/80, so I can't say until I have seen that.

Duminys catch tonight was out and out the most difficult catch I have ever seen,possibly the best. When Ian Healy says that its the best he has seen you take notice......
