I'm a huge fan of Pomersbach but it's very simple - he hasn't done anything for Western Australia in domestic one-day games. Off the top of my head he's made just one half century (vs SA) with a poor average in the low 20s from 20-30 games. And has a shit strike rate which is odd. Conversely, he's a gun at the four day game because he's so attacking.

Shoaib Akhtar has been left out of a eight-day training camp at the Army School of Physical Training in Kakul beginning on July 21 after the Pakistan Cricket Board expressed concern over his fitness.

"We feared he might break down as it will be a strenuous training camp," Shafqat Naghmi, the PCB's chief operating officer, told AP. "We will be much clearer on Shoaib's fitness when the trainers physically see him. After that we will see whether some sort of training program could be devised for him."

The official's comments are seemingly in contrast to a spate of reports suggesting that Shoaib had been left out because he hadn't paid a Rs 7 million fine to the board.

Pakistan has been confirmed by the ICC as the hosts of the Champions Trophy. As a result of there are high chances that at least three nations (Australia, New Zealand and England, with South Africa a possibility) will field lesser quality sides if any at all.

What a joke this is becoming with the non-Asian nations all having major issues with going. The ICC have also stated that there will not be penalties for player pullouts.

A couple of quotes

- The South African team are very disappointed with today's decision and remain extremely concerned about safety and security in Pakistan," Tony Irish, chief executive of the South African Cricketers' Association, told Reuters. "We hope Cricket South Africa (CSA) will sit down with us and talk to us about whether they are seriously considering sending a team to the Champions Trophy in Pakistan or not."

- Paul Marsh, the Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) chief executive, was also disappointed with the decision. "We've gone through this with a fine-tooth comb and we don't think the risk to go to Pakistan is acceptable

- NZCPA executive manager Heath Mills had earlier slammed the proposal to go ahead with the tournament in Pakistan. "We believe this is a poor ICC decision ... we can't see how they have put player safety as their No. 1 priority and this is very disappointing," Mills told New Zealand-based Radio Sport. "Our recommendation to our players is not to travel to Pakistan at this point in time. There isn't one player I have spoken to who is comfortable about travelling to Pakistan at the moment."
