THE South Australian Cricket Association fears a plan to increase parking fees at Adelaide Oval events will have a "detrimental effect" on attendances.

It is understood Adelaide City Council, from July 1, will raise parking fees in parklands at the Oval from $5 to $10 for non-international events and from $10 to $15 for international events.
In a submission to council on its draft budget for 2008-09, SACA chief Mike Deare described the move as "simply a revenue-raising exercise".

"SACA is very concerned such high percentage increases in parking fees to attend Adelaide Oval events, coupled with the increases in petrol prices, will have a detrimental effect on attendances," Mr Deare wrote.

"A downturn in attendances is not in the interests of Adelaide City Council or ratepayers."

A council spokeswoman said draft budget submissions were being reviewed. Decisions would be made on June 30.

Is it any different to slug $10 for a park at Footy Park ?
At least at Adelaide Oval, you can catch a bus, train, tram, go to a pub, etc etc
I like this quote
"simply a revenue-raising exercise"
.
Well if they didn't want money or revenue wouldn't they just give free parking...

IMO, not a huge issue as for any SANFL games I usually get a pretty close park
and the cricket I bus it in...

Would get pi55ed off however if they rezoned the parking areas around the oval surrounds
in an atempt to force people into a "paying' car park....

Could not remember the last time I paid to park in at an Adelaide Oval event. It costs $$, plus is so poorly lit for night games and the way cars are parked always leads to a long wait to even get onto the bitumen.

$10 at Footy Park is equally a disgrace, but there is a captive audience because there is limited servicing by public transport atm.

Personally I think the ACC is thinking that it will encourage people to use its own council-owned car parks in the city (maybe at $8 on the day with the production of a city shopping receipt).

I catch a train to Adelaide Oval so I wont be caught - but dont forget a lot of people who go to the cricket (and footy park as well) are actually from country SA who will already be paying a lot of extra dosh in fuel prices....

i dont see the point in charging for non international games at all let alone charging $10. the international matches should $10 at the absolute maximum.

as sjabc says thhough it wouldnt surprise me if the acc also got rid of all the free street parking to try and make people park in the car park

Those are some big increases. :? Parking is too expensive, you pay $8.50 for 36ers.

Take some ******* concrete pills. Catch a bus or a train. Then you can get on the turps. Still, you might need some excuses to miss the Redbacks next season.....

AAMI charges about $10 car park ???
When 30-40000 people attend they can charge that becoz the people will rock up and pay for it
ADELAIDE council to charge $10 for a pura cup game where 88 people roll up is baffling

Lets get things into perspective
It costs me $15 for a seasons pass to attend all P/C + O/D+ 20/20 games involving SA for a season.
And it costs me $10 for a car park for the day..... PISS OFF.....

If the $$$ is redirected back to the SACA for cricket development perhaps I could content myself to paying the $4 they charged last season for SA games
But if the $$$ goes to the council then that is a complete aboration.

Parking fees are what put me off going to town
I rarely go to town these days

But you go to town on here. ;)

Catching public transport into town is better than copping parking fines and fees.
