Adcock not offered SA contract
April 24, 2008 THREE months after captaining South Australia, batsman Nathan Adcock hasn't been offered a new contract with the Redbacks.
Adcock last season led SA until being dropped in February after averaging a paltry 13.83 runs in the Pura Cup.
The 30-year-old was a notable omission from the first round of contracts offered by the SA cricket hierarchy.
"We felt that his batting performance overall was down on what we expected," Redbacks coach Mark Sorell said.
"Obviously Nathan is disappointed ... it's never pleasing for anybody not to be in a squad or in a team, he's disappointed with it."
Sorell said Adcock could yet win a contract in the second round of deals offered by May 15.
The Redbacks also did not offer a contract to batsman Shane Deitz, a veteran of 66 first-class matches, but have signed New South Wales batsmen Aaron O'Brien and Tom Cooper.
O'Brien, 26, boasts a modest average of 23 from 20 first-class matches, while 21-year-old Cooper is uncapped.
They will join former Victorian batsman Michael Klinger on a Redbacks roster weakened by the retirements of experienced trio Darren Lehmann, Matthew Elliott and Jason Gillespie

The whole SACA seemes very adhoc and managing by crisis. Hopefully there is a plan that extends more than just this season, but the addition of players like Klinger?? Its hard to think that were loading up with youth, when the import signings are far from spring chickens.

hold your horses fellas. Schimma's title is very misleading its just the top tiered contracts announced.
Nathan can now go back to his previous day job with a law firm before he took up his hobby full time.
The WHOLE SACA set up is a joke starting from the CEO/Board to the coaching staff of the underage sides. The only department with any credibility left is Les Burdett and his team.

What a mess SACA is.
Offer Adcock the captaincy even though he struggles to hold a place in the team, drop him before the end of the season and then not offer a contract for the next. How many teams have done that before? It could only happen in SA.

Wow, so they're basically admitting they stuffed up.
Can't believe Deitz wasn’t offered a contract.

Its terrible..how could you ever expect to bowl a first class side out twice and have scored more runs than them with those players. As Ive stated before I cant see the recruiting direction either, the incoming players or attempts are not overly young and fresh..rather recycled

Very disappointing to see no contracts for Tom Plant and Jason Borgas. Maybe we are trying to lose games in two days and have long rests?

Agree with that. The bloke never seemed to get much of a chance, correct me if Im wrong. It would have to be better to at least have given him a shot late last year, its not as if we were playing the last games to host the final.

So much credibility that the Kolkata franchise in the IPL have sent an SOS to Les Burdett to help them with their pitch preperation. he has stated that he will not interupt his current family holiday

deitz would be devestated- he is a much better player than all the batsmen who are on rookies-
bugger the age issue- he is better, fit, and will make more runs any day of the week.
It baffles me

I thought Plant did OK last year? How old is he?

O'Brien, is he from NSW?? I'm a Bluebagger and I'm struggling to remember the name. Come on Booney mate, come out of retirement and put on a red cap. We'll catch up and have a few drinks when the Redbacks play Qld at the Gabba!
What a farce.

hey BP I heard a rumour that Tom was looking to just Play Cricket for Glenelg and have a kick of the footy somewhere once he is off contract.
Also Jason could be exploring opportunities elsewhere

Does the sacking of Dietz, Adcock & co who would of been on decent contracts along with the retired Gillespie make room in the salary cap for Cullen & Bailey now that they don't have ACB contracts or are the SACA simply saying they are too old and while we are losing we may as well be losing with young blokes.
