South Africa are having a fair dinkum crack in reply to their credit.
2/198 in the 23rd over with Smith just out for 90 off of 55 balls.

South Africa 2/249 in the 28th over with Gibbs 132 not out off of 94 balls. Don't think there is much doubt that Gibbs will become the first player to score a one day double ton if he lasts another 15 overs.

Crikey, I watched the first 30 overs of Australia's innings and left when they lost the 2nd wicket and were 2/210 with 20 overs left.
434 is unbelievable, Ricky Ponting would have enjoyed his unbelievable innings. Nice choke Ricky!

Gibbs out for 175 off of 111 to just miss out on what would have been a history making knock.
Much harder for SA now but still in with a show at 4/303 after 33 overs. While I thought what Australia did was phenomenal, we only (!!!!!!!!!!!) got to our 300 off of 40 overs.

not looking good for SA, two new batters, havn't hit any 4/6's for a couple of overs, RRR is starting to climb
still a chance tho.

Christ, if I didn't see it I wouldn't have believed.
Probably the most amazing sporting game of any sort I've seen in all my life.

In what can only be described as perhaps the greatest one day match of all time, South Africa has pulled off a miracle victory with one wicket and one ball to spare.
Boucher finished up on 50 not out with Ntini cooly placing a ball down to third man off the 2nd ball of the last over to get Boucher back on strike.
Mick Lewis bought up his first one day ton

(10-0-113-1) in what may end his international career.
Good bowling by Bracken in the circumstances to take 5-67.

Great little cameo by Johan Van der Wath also as after his first few games here in Australia, I was beginning to think that he thought a bat was a fashion accessory. Was troubled out here by the slow bowlers and maybe it wouldn't have hurt to give the ball to Clarke or Symonds while he was batting as he loves the ball coming on to the bat.
Easy to say in hindsight I know.

That's fantastic bowling by Bracken. Only 6.7 an over on that deck and 5 wickets.

Is it really though?
Highest scoring for sure but in this day and age of glorified 'Kanga Cricket,' I have my doubts.
Did they play in somone's backyard or something?

If we had McGrath, Warne, Dizzy and Tait playing as well, we would have won.

Not sure about greatest match, but definitely the weirdest and most amazing match ever!
It was a surreal feeling watching South Africa believe they were going to win when they were still over 300 runs behind! You had to adjust all the benchmarks you build up in your head about what was a "good" or "bad" over. Any over in which a boundary wasn't scored was a victory for the bowlers!
It will be interesting to see if this game is a one-off or will it raise the expectations of batsmen around the world to the extent that scores of over 400 will become common now?

well i dont think there will be many games where the bowling lineups are so average.
and while mick lewis is playing 500 is a chance..

Mr MK (being South African) said that the "Bullring" in Jo'berg is very small ORDB, close to someone's backyard I suppose

. Might be a while before scores get this high again but records are made to be broken!
