what happens with cases like the last 2 odi's who as you know were washed out after some play in them regarding runs, wickets etc does it go onto the record of the bowler & the batsmen ?

i would think if they play a test match & the last 2 days were a wash out the figures from the first 3 days would be included in the players record & the game obviously would be a draw but as i said what happens in the odi's ?

Both teams get 2 points and i am pretty sure all those scores and bowling figures are recorded and kept as stats for those players.

Last night was Gambhir 3rd ODI hundred and that will be recorded as such i believe.

was checking on cricket info and despite both games having no result, each team was awarded 2 points.
also brett lee's 5/27 appears on his odi profile as does gambhir's century

All stats are recorded.
The only thing is I'm unsure if a game that is 'abandoned without a ball being bowled' is credited as an actual match.
These matches are recorded in the captain's stats that are often shown on televised games as 'NR' or 'No result.'

fair enough too. Just cos there was no result, doesn't mean the scores didn't occur!

I heard a story from Ian Chappell (on ch 9) one day where he said that if a batsman retires hurt and doesn't return, or a batsman does not bat due to illness or injury, those stats are recorded as as if he was out for that score. Can someone confirm?

I can't think of an example, but if a batsman retires hurt, they are considered retired- not out, as they can bat again. If they don't return to bat, I'd assume they are still not out...
Having said that, Ian Chappell would probably have a better idea than me...

From lords.org:

9. Batsman leaving the field or retiring
A batsman may retire at any time during his innings. The umpires, before allowing play to proceed, shall be informed of the reason for a batsman retiring.
(a) If a batsman retires because of illness, injury or any other unavoidable cause, he is entitled to resume his innings subject to (c) below. If for any reason he does not do so, his innings is to be recorded as -Retired 'not out'.
(b) If a batsman retires for any reason other than as in (a) above, he may only resume his innings with the consent of the opposing captain. If for any reason he does not resume his innings it is to be recorded as -Retired 'out'.
(c) If after retiring a batsman resumes his innings, it shall be only at the fall of a wicket or the retirement of another batsman.

The top seven things that happens when games are abandoned.

1. Everyone gets wet
2. The players play cards
3. We get to see highlights of a one day game that we just don't remember
4. Mark Nicholas talks shit (up from number six from the 'what happens when it's dry list)
5. Some bloke called Lewis comes out and asks 'What's a Duck worth?'
6. Tony Grieg slags Australia saying 'it doesn't rain like this in Manchester'
7. REB gets good dream team points because the Indians haven't had to field yet again
