He actually averaging better than Cossie this season

And at 29 doing better than his opening partner Deitz at 20.12

In fact the only current batsman averaging better than Elliot is Ferguson (due respect given to non-specialist batsmen Dizzy & Manou)

So NFC you want to sack our second best (remaining) specialist batsman of the season

Add that to the fact that an opener is doing the hardest job in the batting lineup and therefore cannot be expected to average as much as a player who goes in after the shine has been taken off. (Admittedly, in SA's case this year the shine is not off the ball until the number nine is in!!)

I Thought by Getting Rid of Blewett and Boof that the SACA actually had a vision for the Future by investing in Youth So how in the Hell can anyone Justify Elliotts Place in the Team on the Back of his APPALLING 1st class Record over the Last 2 1/2 Seasons ?
Simply has to go along with Nobes and the other crony selectors but cant see it happening bcos that would be sensible.

Just did some record checking for this season. Herb has topscored out of the toporder six in the following matches' first innings this season:

V Victoria
V Tasmania
V Queensland
V Western Australia

This is the guy we want dropped out of the first six??? Geez!!

The only two times this year where Herb has not been the topscorer out of the recognised batsmen this year were:

against Western Australia in Adelaide where he made 58 anyway
against New South Wales

If you are going to drop Herb, should you not drop all the others in the top six first??

If there was a young opening batsman to take his place it would be easier to drop Elliott. I had big hopes for Jason Borgas at the start of the season but it appears hes not ready to be a consistent performer at first class level just yet.

So i think its fair enough Elliott stays in the side for the time being.

There are players in the side most SA supporters love to hate and if their results don't stack up then fair enough they should cop some heat

But my objection is when those guys take the all the blame when the most of the team-mates have failed as well.

This current match Elliot has outscored his opening partner (not by much I know) but there's no thread started for Deitz :?

IMO keep it balanced on all the guys not keep singling out one or two and then make excuses for the rest. That's not to excuse Elliot or anyone else which is my point.

Right now, Elliot has more right to be in the side then most of his fellow specialist batsmen - even if that makes him the best of a bad bunch, beggars can't be choosers.

So Mathew Elliott is the Future of SA Cricket? Great!
Yeah , Lets just let him play for as long as he likes and retire on his own terms.
Treat our own Home Grown Greats like SHIT but we dont dare Upset the underperforming, over the Hill, Broken down Interstate Recruits by suggesting that they move on.
ATM SACA are getting what they Deserve.

Most cricket purists know that first innings runs are worth a lot more than second innings runs. Herb's efforts in first innings' this season have been:

V Victoria 42 (top score of specialist batsmen)
v Tasmania 55 (top score of specialist batsmen)
V New South Wales 6
v Western Australia 58
V Queensland 78 (top score of specialist batsmen)
v Western Australia 26 (top score of specialist batsmen)

In all, 265 @ 44.17 and being the topscoring specialist batsman 67% of the time.

Cheers

NFC & JJ .....

1 Who comes in for Elliot?
2 Why does Deitz stay when he is averaging 20 - or is he going too?

So, the prosecution would like to drop a player who has shown a massive improvement this year? One who has become the key batsman for South Australia in the top order? Drop him when his form is 400% better than in previous seasons?

Key batsman have to do better than average about 28 so far this season
When he boosts his average up to 40+ I will start to agree with you
Until then your case has too many holes
Suggest you contact

He is averaging over 44 in the innings' that count, plus whereas the average time a member of the top six should head the scoring is 16.67%, Herb is topscoring out of recognised batsmen in 67% of SA's first innings'. He has a better record in that than any player in the Pura
Cup in Australia in any team! So are you saying that we need to drop every batsmen from every side in the Pura Cup??

First class season 07/08

Matthew Elliott - 12 innings for 323 runs @ 29.36

Shane Watson - 5 innings for 28 runs @ 5.60

Franger Cup

Matthew Elliott - 5 innings for 259 runs @ 86.33

Shane Watson - 3 innings for 100 runs @ 33.33

NFC who started this thread and MALfunctioning credibility have been backing WATT000 to play for australia yet want Matthew Elliott dropped from the SACA's.....

Have a look at the current stats above and they tell a story......
