He's been one of the best batsmen in first class cricket for a while, just gets injured (and bowled too much).

He's clearly adjusted his run up. Loved seeing Symonds mock the new approach.

You've had to wait until December to post this one NFC. I'm posting in this thread because Watt000 has provided me with much enjoyment this Cricket season and I for one appreciate his 'eff0rts'.

Now that he has finally got past 30 you watch the selectors pick the lemon.

Im going to be objective with WATTO this season

BATTING
I still maintain he should concentate on his batting and become a front line batsman
The man averages 48 in p/cup cricket, thats exceptional in a very tough domestic comp.
He is trying out as an opener, and whilst his first 2 games have been poor it is too early
to denounce him a failure
Scores of 000 + 13 in the short term are poor, but long term ?
His batting in the Franger cup is good with scores of 28+ 70
The first half of those 70 runs were made against some very very good bowlers in
Gillespie/Harris and typhoon Tait who are a formidable unit

FIELDING
Reliable fielder neither outstanding or brilliant

BOWLING
had 6 overs 1/22 early
finished at 8 overs 1/47 v SA
ordinary effort on a helpful wicket
nothing enthused me about his bowling
as a fifth bowler his efforts are ok as he bats well in o/d games
if i have to rate him as a frontline bowler i simply cant
BUT
He was first up from a long spell and may improve

INJURIES
as Garth Porter from Sherbet once sang "Its Just A Matter Of Time." if he keeps bowling

Dont mind you calling him the operator 000 and having a crack when Watto
fails, gets injured etc, but please acknowledge his achievements as well

Mal, you are right. I have said all along that Watto should give the bowling away for 2 reasons. Firstly he just keeps injuring himself when bowling and secondly he's no good at it.

Is he good enough to play International cricket as a batsman? For most other countries yes, for Australia no. Therein lies his dilema. He knows this too and realises his only chance to play for Australia is as an allrounder. If nothing else it should provide REB and myself with plenty of amusement watching him get belted around the park before breaking down yet again.

His best chance to play Test Cricket is to make runs as an opener
Matt Hayden cannot go on forever
Hungry Jaques despite an amazing series v SL still needs to consolidate
Chris Rogers is not equipped to make runs at the highest level[in my opinion]
A good season in p/cup with the bat will enhance Watsons test prospects
Getting injured bowling again and he could become a district cricketer

But in the mean time the tag team will continue to duel

They can't fit both in and Symonds brings something to the side that Watson can't. Symands is a genuine matchwinner. He can be so damaging and change a game in a very short period. Watson can't do this.

what is the point of having superior stats when you play a blinder once in a blue moon when you are not injured then.....TWANG we are back to square one. Symonds might not be as exeptional as Watt000 stats but at least he is consistantly on the park unlike this lemon

If it's stats you want to quote Symonds stacks up pretty favourably with Watto at Test level. Watto Averages about 20 with the bat and 61 with the ball.
