Tait > MacGill= Play 4 QUICKS!!!

First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

Who wouldn't the Curry munchers like to face....

Postby am Bays » Sat Dec 01, 2007 6:46 pm

Cast your mind back to Dec 26 1999 and a young Brett Lee was unleashed on Tendulkar et al in the Boxing day test....suffice to say at 155 km/h he brained them...

So what do we do play to their strenghs and play a spinner or do we go all out attack - four quicks and Symonds and Clarke providing a token back up spin support.....

For mine an attack consisting of Lee, Clark, Johnson and Tait would be far more problematic for the Curry Munchers and hence despite how well McGill pulls up Tait should be included for SCG to carry the drinks.

The little bastards would sh!t themselves at Perth with that attack especially as DK is Pres overthere and has decreed, juice it up boys I want pace and bounce back in the track..
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Tait > MacGill= Play 4 QUICKS!!!

Postby NFC » Sat Dec 01, 2007 11:24 pm

Seriously, MacGill is done and dusted, we need to get it through our heads a spinner isn't a requirement.

Lee, Clarke, Johnson and Tait is a top class attack, let's make it happen and dump the spinner, no point just having one for the sake of it. Warne's retired, MacGill isn't the bowler he once was, time to move on and play 4 quicks.

Agreed. Bring Tait into the team, he has been awesome so far at the Gabba. If he picks up another 2 or 3 tomorrow surely he will be a huge chance. Attack the Indians with pace a la` when Brett Lee burst on the scene.

And not to mention the Indians are very good players of spin, I'd hate to see MacGill in his current state front up against them. Could get ugly!

Its a sign of the times post-Warnie that we think 4 quicks is the best option and I agree - if MacGill's not fit then I'd play Tait ahead of Hogg.

At home we seem to be able to cover Warnie but it will be interesting when he go overseas. Esp in the sub-contintent they will be able to prepare spinner friendly pitches again :D

Reading the Advertiser this morning Jimmy Maher was quoted saying in a post match press confrence he had "Never faced bowling as quick as that" refering to Tait on day 3. He also admitted that the ball that got him out plum LBW and the 2 prior deliveries that he "could not see the ball". Now when a world class batsman comes out and says stuff like that surely the selectors would take notice. Those 4'10 sand monkeys would be s******g them selves facing a bloke bowling 155 km reverse swinging yorkers. Most destructive bowler the game has seen in a long time (Since Curtly Ambrose imo), Brett Lee was quick, not as quick now but he could not swing the ball aswell as bowling 155 kph. Blokes would be fearing their safety facing that and imagine being in the Queensland change rooms padded up when your captain and best batsman comes in from getting out and tells you that he can't see the ball.........

Getting a little carried away IMO.

Firstly since when has Jimmy Maher been a world class batsmen?

Most Destructive bowler the game has seen since Curtly Ambrose? No not yet, he bowled very very well but can hardly be put in the same class as the likes of Ambrose, Donald, Ahktar and co just yet.

It's easy to underrate Australian domestic players. Had Maher been born in any other country he would have played a lot of International cricket and he would have been successful.

You are spot on but that does not change the fact he is not a world class batsmen IMO. I have no doubt Tait was bowling very quickly but lets not get too carried away.

On Tait, with his action / body etc, I reckon he's got x-number of days in him that he can bowl flat out fast and swing it, before that crucial pace factor drops 5-10 pct and he becomes much less of a danger to really good players.
Therefore, while he's got that scary pace and late swing etc he's currently got, we should use as many of his top line days that he's got at Australian level, particularly when in Australian conditions, and not leave him in lower grades waiting for a spot. He simply may not be that same bowler in a couple of years, or even less time.
Right now, while we're good and playing at home, we should just pick him, be it ahead of the spinner or Johnson.

Lee, Johnson and Tait all bowl consistently around the 150km/h mark. The selectors should open their ******* eyes and realise those 3 blokes will destroy the Indian bastman. They are all gun players of spin because that's all they ever play against. Play 3 genuine quick bowlers you bastards!!!

Love Jimmy Mahers comments, reckon it's the quickest he has ever seen anyone bowl over his career, "I didn't see any of the three balls he bowled to me" Know Jimmies getting on but he still aint a bad batsman, Taity must have been quick, real quick, getting him in the test side and lets see some curry eating oops jumping around

Imagine the Indian batsmen waiting to bat with Lee and Tait rotating all day from one end in 4 over bursts with Clark and Johnson at the other. Delhi Belly would be one discription, flat out shitting themselves would be another.

Bugger old, over the hill spinners. Blast them with 150+ km all day!
